UGC Chairman Announces Launch of Digital University Initiative in July 2023
The digital university programme will be set in motion by University Grants Commission next year in the month of July to bring education to a multitude of children country-wide.
UGC Chairman, M Jagadesh Kumar, has announced the launch of the Digital University in India in July 2023. This initiative aims to introduce courses related to skill development and job-oriented training. UGC is extensively discussing the launch of this Digital University that will begin its operation next year in the month of July.
In his statement, the UGC Chairman mentioned the ease with which students would be able to pursue courses at the Digital University. He stated that students would be allowed to pursue a particular course according to their own time frame. For example, If a student can complete his 4-year course in less time, he'll be allowed to do so. Similarly, if a student one stood complete his 4-year course induration longer than that, he will be allowed to do that too. The flexible nature of the curriculum at the Digital University will allow students even to pursue 2 degrees simultaneously. In the case of dual degree courses, after the completion of one degree, students will have the choice to pursue the other degree through online mode. The Digital University programme will connect all Central Universities, the Indian Institutes of Technology, National Institutes of Technology in India.
The Academic Bank of Credit facility will also be established through the digital university program. It will be a digital repository that will record each student's data. Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, mentioned during the budget meeting of 2022-2023 that the digital university program will bring top-notch to the doorsteps of students countrywide.
