How is Physical Education Perceived in Our Educational Institutions?
A study includes more than 100,000 children between the ages of 7 to 17 in 287 schools across over 85 cities in 23 states of India. All age groups displayed an alarmingly low level of fitness. The study involved parameters such as anaerobic exercise capacity, flexibility, lower and upper body strength, and body mass index.
Furthermore, based on the study, slightly more than 40% lacked a healthy BMI and stamina. Experts cited the absence of outdoor games and physical activity as a major contributing factor. Moreover, the study showed that 65% of girls and 59% of boys had healthy BMIs. But in other areas of fitness, girls performed worse than boys.
