ADW scholarship is also known as the Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare scholarship. The Department of Backward Classes Welfare under the Government of Tamil Nadu provides the ADW scholarship to deserving students of Tamil Nadu.
The Tamil Nadu government has implemented the ADW scholarship to motivate students and encourage them to pursue higher education by offering them financial assistance and other benefits. The institutes should submit the renewal applications for the post-matric scholarship for classes XI and XII, ITI, industrial and pre-matric scholarships for classes IX and X, provided by the Department of Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare, within the deadline. The deadline to apply for the ADW scholarship was July 31, 2023.

ADW Scholarship Eligibility Criteria
The domiciles of Tamil Nadu studying class I up to the PhD level are eligible for the ADW scholarship. The ADW scholarship eligibility criteria are as follows:
- The candidates should belong to SC/ST, minority Muslims or converted Christianity.
- They should be native residents of Tamil Nadu for more than five years.
- Candidates studying class I to the PhD level can apply for the ADW scholarship.
- For candidates applying for ADW hostels, the distance between the school/college and their residence should be more than five kilometres. However, this condition does not apply to girls.
- In female candidates, the distance between the school/college to the place of residence can be within five kilometres.
- The family income should not exceed INR 2,00,000 per annum.
- Candidates who want to study in distinguished schools should have cleared the previous qualifying examination.
- The students should have studied in an adi dravidar welfare, GTR, government or government-aided schools.
- Students wanting to pursue class XI and XII in reputed schools through the ADW scholarship should ensure the family income does not exceed INR 1,00,000 per annum.
ADW Scholarship Rewards
The Adi dravidar tribal welfare has established eighteen schools and three residential schools in and around the adi dravidar community. Besides ADW scholarship, the government also provides other benefits to uplift people's lives belonging to the adi dravidar community. Given below are the rewards of the ADW scholarship:
ADW Scholarship for Schools
- The Government will grant the following ADW scholarship incentives to female students:
- The female students belonging to the SC/ST category and studying class III to V will receive INR 500 per annum.
- The adi dravidar tribal welfare will grant INR 1,000 per annum to SC/ST girl students in class VI.
- SC/ST female students in class VII and VIII will receive INR 1,500 per annum.
- Children of those engaged in unclean occupation and studying in class X will receive INR 1,850 through the ADW scholarship.
- The Government will cover educational costs, special fee, application fee, registration and examination fee.
- The welfare will select 1,000 boys and 1,000 girls who have secured top ranks in the class XII board exam and grant them INR 3,000 per annum for five years.
- Day scholars in class IX and X will receive INR 2,250 per annum to meet their educational expenses.
- Hostellers in class IX and X will receive INR 4,500 per annum for their education.
ADW Scholarship for Schools Higher Secondary Level
- The government selects ten deserving students from each district who have secured the highest ranks in their Class X exams. The selected students will pursue class XI and class XII in distinguished private schools, and the welfare will cover the cost of the education through the ADW scholarship.
- The ADW welfare will provide free textbooks to students studying class I to XII in the adi dravidar and tribal welfare schools and government schools.
- The welfare also provides the students with free guides and question banks for students appearing for class X and class XII board exams.
- The students studying in ADW schools and those residing in ADW hostels will receive four sets of uniforms free of charge.
- Special classes are given to students appearing for the Class X and XII board exams.
- The welfare provides free bicycles to girls who are converted Christians and boys studying class XI and XII.
ADW Scholarship for College Students
- The government grants INR 7,500 under the higher educational ADW scholarship to students pursuing an undergraduate degree and polytechnic courses.
- The students pursuing a postgraduate degree and professional courses will receive INR 8,000 per annum.
- The state government also offers an ADW scholarship amount to students in self-finance colleges.
- The law graduates will receive a lump-sum amount of INR 50,000 to start their practice.
- Note: The candidates should register their names in a bar Council to obtain this benefit.
How to Apply for ADW Scholarship?
Interested candidates who meet the ADW scholarship eligibility criteria should approach the head of the institution to apply for a scholarship. Given below are the steps to apply for the ADW scholarship Tamilnadu state:
Step 1- The headmasters/principal of a school or college should fill in the details and submit the application form online.
Step 2 - After applying online, the head of the institution should enclose hard copies of the students' applications and documents and send them via post to their respective district's adi dravidar and tribal welfare office.
Step 3 - The ADW officials will scrutinise the applications and forward them to the adi dravidar and tribal welfare department directorate.
Step 4 - The welfare will directly credit the ADW scholarship amount to the beneficiary's account through the ECS (Electronic Clearing Service) system.

The candidates should submit the necessary documents while applying for the ADW scholarship. They should ensure the documents contain relevant and factual details. The documents required for ADW scholarship are as follows:

How to Recover the ADW Scholarship Password?
The institutes can track the students' ADW scholarship application forms by providing their registered username and password. They must keep the login credentials safe. However, if they lose the password, the institutions can retrieve it by following these steps:
Step 1 - The candidates should visit the official Tamil Nadu e-district ADW scholarship website.
Step 2 - They should click on the forgot password link on the homepage.
Step 3 - The candidates should enter the username, registered email ID and mobile number.
Step 4 - After entering the details, they should click on the submit button.
How to Check the Status of the ADW Scholarship?
The candidates can track the status of their ADW scholarship application forms by providing their student ID. They can obtain the ID from their respective institutions. Given below are the steps for students to track their ADW scholarship status:
Step 1: The candidates should visit the official Tamil Nadu e-district ADW scholarship website.
Step 2 - They should click on the status button available at the top of the page.
Step 3 - The registered applicants should enter the academic year and student ID.
Step 4 - After providing the details, they should click on the view status button.
