28 NIOS subjects are offered each for classes 10th and 12th in various languages. Moreover, it is compulsory for students to select at least 5 NIOS subjects.
The list of NIOS Subjects for classes 10th and class 12th includes 28 subjects like English, Hindi, and Mathematics, etc. Students of secondary and senior secondary levels must choose a minimum of five NIOS subjects. At least one chosen subject must be a language to receive the final pass certification. A student can also take up to two additional NIOS subjects, allowing seven subjects.
It is also important to note that secondary (class 10th) and senior secondary (class 12th) levels can choose only a maximum of two languages. Like other boards within the country, NIOS conducts class 10th and class 12th examinations twice a year - April/May and October/November. The NIOS class 10th and 12th exams for 2023 will be conducted from Apr 6 to May 8, 2023.
NIOS Subjects
Students belonging to the secondary level of education are offered 28 NIOS subjects in eight languages: Hindi, English, Urdu, Marathi, Telugu, Gujarati, Malayalam, and Odia mediums. Similarly, students appearing in the senior secondary examinations are offered 28 NIOS subjects in Hindi, English, Urdu, Bengali, and Odia mediums. NIOS Subjects for Class 10th
NIOS subjects for class 10th students can primarily be divided into two groups as given below. As mentioned previously, students are required to opt for a minimum of one or a maximum of up to two subjects from group A and the remaining NIOS subjects for class 10th can be chosen from group B.

NIOS Subjects for Class 12th
As shown in the table below, NIOS subjects for class 12th can be divided into six groups. Students must pick a minimum of one subject and a maximum of two subjects from group A. Students are given the flexibility to choose the remaining NIOS subjects for class 12th from other groups.

About NIOS
The National Institute of Open Schooling, more commonly known as NIOS, was set up in 1989. NIOS was established in India -
- Increase literacy and provide flexible learning opportunities to all segments of society.
- NIOS provides open and remote learning options for anyone looking to expand their knowledge.
- Offer open and distance learning to students who cannot undergo training through the formal educational system.
- NIOS acts as an independent education board that sets its curriculum and prescribes the study materials for students based on the curriculum.
- The Board allows the flexibility of choosing subjects of choice for students during their study.
