Ministry of Education's initiative, Vidyanjali, has impacted and transformed the lives of students in government-funded schools all over India.
Vidyanjali is a school volunteer initiative by Ministry of Education, Government of India, to strengthen schools across India with the involvement of the private sector and the community.
This programme aims at enhancing co-curricular activities in government-funded schools to improve the quality of the educational system and learning outcomes. Vidyanjali reflects the volunteerism ideas envisioned in National Education Policy 2022.
It links schools with volunteers from a variety of industries, including NGOs, executives of both the public and private sector companies, retired professionals, corporate institutions and more. Vidyanjali offers two broad verticals: “Participate in School Service/Activity” and “ Contribute Assets/Material/Equipment”.
In the first vertical, Participate in School Service/Activity, volunteers have the option to help fill the knowledge, skill, and human resource gaps in the organisation by engaging in co-curricular services and activities in government schools.
Whereas in the second vertical, Contribute Assets/Material/Equipment, volunteers can strengthen the schools by contributing to the school infrastructure, teaching and learning material, equipment for co-curricular activities and sports, maintenance and repairs.
Till date, Vidyanjali has onboarded 383955 schools and impacted 716958 children with the contribution of 96239 volunteers. Volunteers range from serving & retired scientists to homemakers. Vidyanjali has been a strong catalyst in the transformation government schools pan India.
Vidyanjali provided a platform for individuals and corporations to collectively help bridge the access gap to educational resources and quality infrastructure in government-funded schools. Not only did this initiative reduce the burden of improving infrastructure from schools and administration by involving the private sector, but it also created inclusive educational communities to accommodating children with special needs.
