What is AICTE? All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is a national-level Apex Advisory Body established in November 1945 to review the facilities and provisions available for technical education in colleges. 

The council seeks to promote India's growth in an integrated and coordinated manner. It is under the Department of Higher Education and was granted statutory status by an Act of Parliament in 1987. AICTE is responsible for the overall planning and development of technical education in the country's institutes.

AICTE is an advising council for technical education. The AICTE has legislative authorities and has commenced the development, maintenance, and planning of norms and standards. It monitors accreditation, evaluates courses and programs, and funds priority areas in technical education to guarantee the colleges' coordinated and integrated development.

Objectives of AICTE

Role of AICTE in Education

• AICTE permits improvements in institutes such as the introduction of new courses, the extension of existing institutes, and the continuance of permission following a gap in the previous academic year.
• The council approves the development of new technical institutes in the country that would provide technical courses at various levels, including Degree, Diploma, Post Diploma, PG, PG Diploma, and PG.
• Furthermore, the AICTE approve changes to the country's technical education sites or locations.
• Furthermore, the AICTE grants authorisation for the closure of institutes that seek it.
• AICTE India offers clearance to institutes seeking to convert women's institutions into co-educational colleges and vice versa.
• AICTE also contributes to the reduction or expansion of admission, courses, initial and regular shifts in existing technical institutes.

AICTE Courses

AICTE provides 49 courses online to interested students using an e-learning system. The courses are free of charge and open to everyone. The council has ensured that there is no language barrier among pupils and has also established courses in Hindi. 

All students in any region of the country who want to learn about technology and expand their skills can take advantage of these courses. The council provides courses ranging from programming languages to data science and other technical topics.

Functions of AICTE

Importance Of AICTE

All the engineering colleges and the colleges offering technical courses that come under the ambit of 10 statutory bodies of AICTE cannot offer these programs without attaining approval from AICTE. The colleges have to apply to AICTE for those offering the courses and then the council checks for the quality of education and authenticity of the courses. After all this is done, the AICTE grants permission to the colleges to offer these courses to the students in the institutes.

Difference Between AICTE And UGC

A fundamental distinction between UGC (University Grants Commission) and AICTE is that the AICTE is solely concerned with technical institutes, whereas the UGC works with all types of colleges and courses. 

The UGC is responsible for awarding approval to universities. It also distributes cash to its connected institutions and colleges. The AICTE is a legislative council dedicated to supporting coordinated growth and providing technical education throughout the country. All technical colleges, MBA colleges, and pharmacy colleges are associated with AICTE.
