GetMyUni's Verdict on Alliance University

Alliance University hides behind the mask of a beautiful campus.

While Alliance University has limited recognition as compared to the older and well-established institutions, it has efficiently prioritised infrastructural capabilities to create a state-of-the-art campus to showcase its commitment to holistic education.

However, it seems like the advanced campus facilities could not hide the sub-par placement records. As much as it has been pivotal in offering INR 6 crores worth of merit-based and category-based scholarships each year to incoming MBA students, students have expressed dissatisfaction over the placement packages and companies on various online search portals.

Unlike many elite universities in India, Alliance University hasn't set unreasonably high eligibility requirements. For their popular MBA programme, the CAT cutoff ranges between 75-80 percentile.

How Good is Alliance University’s Library?

Another feather in the cap of Alliance University is the famous “Alliance Library''. It is spread across 50,000 sq.ft over 4 floors and is stocked with all modern amenities to accommodate 1000 users at a time. It has a massive collection of print media like books, journals, publications as well as online resources.

Quantity Over Quality in Academia?

The breadth of Alliance University's course offerings range from business and engineering to law and liberal arts. The university claims to offer an extensive range of programmes that fits both individual objectives and industry trends.

However, reality paints a grim picture. Multiple courses offered don't fit well with industry innovations, trends, or real-world applications and may be viewed as being outdated and irrelevant. Students often perceive these courses of poor quality when they discover that the curriculum does not sufficiently prepare them for real world issues. This has been significantly evident from the many online organic reviews by the students themselves.

Are there Ample Research Opportunities at Alliance University?

The Alliance University offers a range of courses across various disciplines, including business, engineering, law, with a focus on practical skills and knowledge. The courses are designed to prepare the students for the professional world. However, the research opportunities offered by AU are lean and limited in comparison with newer institutions like Academy of Scientific & Innovative Research (AcSIR) that prioritise research-intensive programs.

Only 4 publications have been published so far by the university, out of which 3 primarily focus on law and justice. This is a cause for concern for students pursuing STEM degrees as there is a substantial gap in Alliance University’s academic exploration.

If the students’ ambitions are to pursue in-depth research projects, advanced academic research, or a career in academia, they may need to carefully consider if Alliance University provides the infrastructure and level of research focus that will support the objectives.

Is Alliance University’s Hostel Facilities Expensive?

Alliance University aims to create a home away from home for all the students coming to live on the campus from across the world. They provide students with well-equipped and spacious halls of residence, keeping in mind their comfort and security. Students can also take full advantage of the various amenities provided by Alliance University like gymnasium, library,  running track, basketball court  and multi cuisine food court. However, the hostel charges might sit a bit heavy on the student’s pockets.

Hostel rooms are exclusively available on a first-come-first-serve basis. The hostel fees vary depending on the choice of occupancy and location of the hostel rooms. Below given is a brief description of the type of rooms available the students at Alliance University:

With the expensive fees ranging from INR 1.93 LPA to 2.35 LPA, the residential halls at Alliance University also come with a large number of rules and regulations. Some of which are:

  • The entry time for the hostel in the central campus is 11:00 PM for both UG and PG students.
  • Hostel fees change every six months and are increased by 10% every academic year. It must be paid for the entirety of 12 months irrespective of academic vacations.
  • Students are not allowed to bring cooking and electrical equipment such as electric irons, heaters, electric kettles, induction cooktop etc. to the hostel room. Violation of this rule will result in confiscation of the items along with a INR 2000 fine. Sometimes, an iron and an electric kettle is provided by the warden for public use.
  • Students aren't allowed to bring outside food inside the hostel.
  • Paraphernalia such as alcohol, drugs, cigarettes are prohibited inside the university campus, including the hostels.
  • University reserved the right to periodically conduct a search of any student’s hostel room.
  • Male students are not allowed to enter the female halls of residence or vice versa. Violation of this rule will result in immediate eviction from the hostel and 7-days suspension from classes.

Despite plenty of rules, students review the hostel rules as lenient with little strictness regarding the curfew timings.

Kickstart to the Vibrant Alliance Literary Festival

Bringing academia and art under one roof, Alliance University kickstarted the annual Alliance Literary Festival in May 2022. It brought together 65 pioneers from various fields like literature, law, politics, law, cinema, art and technology.

Theme of the first edition of the literary festival was “Ideas for a Brave New World”. The two-day extravaganza showcased prominent speakers like Barkha Dutt, Shashi Tharoor, and Rahul Pandita. Comedic relief was provided by Kenny Sebastian, while Anita Das gave a creative writing workshop. Singer Usha Uthup also gave a soulful performance.

It has been coined as the largest literary festival hosted by an Indian University. It can be reasonably expected to grow exponentially in the coming years and push Bangalore to the top of the creative economy ladder.

Truth About Placement at Alliance University

Alliance University boasts of creating 6000+ opportunities for their students with more than 600+ recruitment partners. While recruiters range from Amazon and Byju’s to Ernst & Young to Nestle, the students fail to secure packages as competitive as their contemporaries.

Alliance University runs a mentorship program where leaders from top organisations are invited to interact and guide the students to determine strong career plans. They have previously partnered with corporate leaders like Mr. Ramesh Alluri Reddy (Director of Professional Staffing & Digital Business Solutions at The Adecco Group) and Mr. Mohan Kumar (Practice Head at Wipro Limited).

Alliance University makes tall claims of placement packages being as high as 60 LPA, but fails to mention that the average package is 4.2 LPA for an undergraduate student and INR 8.3 LPA  for an MBA graduate. In 2021, most of the Alliance University MBA graduates were recruited in the IT sector, whereas most of the BTech graduates were employed in the consulting sector.

In February 2023, the Bangalore-based Alliance University once again came under fire from the Karnataka Higher Education Department for allegedly increasing the student intake in their BTech program without taking the due approval of the state government. As per the notice issued the University has violated the rules under the Alliance University Act by increasing the student intake for the B Tech in Computer Science and Engineering course from 60 in 2021-22 to 600 in 2022-23.

This is not the first time that Alliance University has been in the news due to its legal problems. In 2016, a committee found a fraudulent claim of wrongful loss to Alliance University to the amount of over INR 96 crores. Former Chancellor of Alliance University, Madhukar Angur, was found to be at the centre of this conspiracy and was immediately removed from the university's board. As nearly INR 42 crores worth of fees paid by students from 2010 to 2016 went missing, many students did not receive their certificates and degrees.

Alliance University is known for their robust course curriculum designed to engage students and align with the industry trends.
