Assam Women's University, [AWU] Jorhat was established in 2013 under the act XXII of the  State legislature of Assam. The University is UGC recognized. The college fosters co-operation and exchange of ideas and concepts between industry and their programs.

AWU, Jorhat courses include undergraduate, postgraduate programs. The college university stresses more on higher knowledge, competitiveness and skills, society, technological aspects, etc. The college stresses on producing women of 21st-century with all the above-mentioned attributes.

Eligibility for admission to various programs is as follows:

• BA: Candidates must have passed the 10+2 exam with at least 45% marks.
• BPT: Minimum 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics at 10+2 level.
• MA: Students should have at least 45% marks in UG BA.
• M.Sc.: A minimum of 50% marks in B.Sc. is required.
• MBA: At least 50% marks in Graduation.
• MLIS & MTTM: A Bachelor’s degree with no less than 45% marks.
• MCA: Candidates must have a BCA, B.Sc. in CS/IT, or Graduation in Mathematics/Statistics with at least 50% marks.

Admissions to all UG and PG programs are based on a written test. For MBA and MA in Mass Communication, Group Discussion and Personal Interview are also conducted.
