Assam Agricultural University is also simply known as AAU.
AAU is an agricultural university.
The Institute was established in the year 1969.
The university is located in Jorhat in the state of Assam, India.
The jurisdiction of the University extends to the entire State of Assam with regard to teaching, research and extension education in the field of agriculture and allied sciences.
The University has a number of campuses with its headquarters at Borbheta, Jorhat.

Eligibility Criteria for Undergraduate Programs for Assam Agricultural University:

1) B.Sc.(Agri) degree program

  • Intake capacity: 184 + 30
  • Duration: 8 semesters- Minimum 4 years
  • Eligibility: PCB/PCAg* With 50% marks in aggregate for Gen/OBC/UPS category & 40% marks in aggregate for SC/ST/DAC category in 10+2/Higher Secondary/Intermediate examination

2) B.V.Sc. & A.H. degree program

  • Intake capacity: 130
  • Duration: 10 semesters (Minimum 5 years including 6 months internship)
  • Eligibility: BCPE* with 50% marks in aggregate for Gen/OBC/UPS (40% for SC/ST/DAC in aggregate) in 10+2 examination/Higher Secondary/Intermediate examination

3) B.Sc. (H.Sc.) degree program

  • Intake capacity: 45
  • Duration: 8 semesters [Minimum 4 years including ELP, in-plant training and Rural Awareness Work Experience Programme (RAWEP)
  • Eligibility: PCB/PCMB/PCM/PCAg/PCH.Sc.* with 50% marks for Gen/OBC/UPS category (40% for SC/ST/DAC in aggregate ) in 10+2 examination/ Higher Secondary/Intermediate examination

4) B.F.Sc. degree programme

  • Intake capacity: 25
  • Duration: 8 semesters [Minimum 4 years including in-plant training and Fisheries Work Experience Programme (FWEP)]
  • Eligibility: PCB/PCAg* With 50% marks for Gen/OBC/UPS category & 40% for SC/ST/DAC category in 10+2/Higher Secondary/Intermediate examination

5) B.Sc.(Hort) degree program

  • Intake capacity: 25
  • Duration: 8 semesters [Minimum 4 years including 1-semester Experiential Learning Programme (ELP) and 1-semester Rural Horticulture Work Experience Programme (RHWEP)]
  • Eligibility: PCB/PCAg* With 50% marks in aggregate for Gen/OBC/UPS category & 40% marks in aggregate for SC/ST/DAC category in 10+2/Higher Secondary/Intermediate examination

6) B.Sc.(Seri) degree program

  • Intake capacity: 25
  • Duration: 8 semesters [ Minimum 4 years including 1-semester Experiential learning Programme (ELP) and 1-semester Rural Sericultural Work Experience Programme (RSWEP)]
  • Eligibility: PCB/PCAg/PC Forestry/PCMB* with 50% marks for Gen/OBC/UPS category & 40% for SC/ST/DAC category in 10+2/Higher Secondary/Intermediate examination

Eligibility Criteria for Postgraduate Programs for Assam Agricultural University:

1) M.Sc. (Agri), M.V.Sc., M.Sc. (H.Sc.) & M.F.Sc. Degree Program:

  • A candidate must have passed the B.Sc. (Agri)/B.Sc. (Hort.)/B.Sc (Agri. Biotech)/ B.Sc. (Hons)Agriculture/Horticulture/B.Sc.(H.Sc.)/B.Sc.(Hons) Home Science/B.F.Sc./B.Tech(Fishery Science) of 4 years duration /B.V.Sc & A.H. (as the case may be) degree examination of this University or any other University recognized by this University securing minimum CGPA of 2.60 / 4.00 scale or 3.25/5.00 scale or 6.60/10.00 scale for Gen/OBC/UPS category and 2.20/4.00 or 2.75/5.00 or 5.60/10.00 for SC/ST/DAC.
  • This shall be relaxable for candidates having 5 years of service experience and deputed by the Govt. of Assam/AAU to a CGPA of 2.30 in 4.00 scale or 5.70 in 10.00 scale or 45% of marks in traditional system.
  • One seat in each of the disciplines will be reserved for the in-service candidate of AAU/Govt. of Assam.
  • In the case where Grade points are not awarded only marks are awarded, the candidate must have secured at least 60% marks for General/OBC/UPS category and 50% marks for SC/ST/DAC category.
  • In addition to that B.Tech (Food Technology)/B.Sc Food Science & Technology/ Horticulture/Biochemistry of 4-year duration will also be eligible for M.Sc (H.Sc.) Food Science & Nutrition. Also the student with B.Sc.(Agri) will be eligible for M.Sc (H.Sc.) Extension and Communication Management.

2) M. Sc. (Food Technology) Degree Program:

  • A candidate must have passed B.Sc., B.Sc. (Agri)/B.Sc. (Hort)/B.V.Sc. & A.H./B.Sc. (Home Science)/B.Sc. (Food Science)/B.E./B.Sc.(Hons.) Agriculture/Horticulture/Home Science/B.Fsc or another equivalent degree from this university or any other university recognized by the Assam Agricultural University securing a minimum CGPA 2.60/4.00 or 3.25/5.00 scale or 6.60/10.00 scale for Gen/OBC/UPS category and 5.60/10.00 or 2.75/5.00 or 2.20/4.00 for SC/ST/DAC Category.
  • In the case where Grade points are not awarded, only marks are awarded, the candidate must have secured at least 60% marks for GEN/OBC/UPS category and 50% marks for SC/ST/DAC category.
  • Selection of the candidates for admission into M.Sc. (Food Technology) is based on the entrance test to be conducted by the Department.

3) M. Sc. (Agri) in Sericulture Degree Programme:

  • A candidate must have passed B.Sc. with Zoology, Chemistry, and Botany, preferably with honors in Zoology with at least 45% marks in aggregate and should have at least 3 years of service experience and must be sponsored by the Govt. of Assam or the Central Silk Board. Candidates with B.Sc. (Agri) with a CGPA of 2.60 in 4.00 scale or 6.60 in 10.00 scale are also eligible to apply.
  • In addition to that B.Sc(Seri)/B.Sc.(Hons) Sericulture candidate may also be considered for admission into M.Sc(Agri.) Sericulture, till PG programs are started in the College of Sericulture, AAU.

4) MBA (Agri Business) Degree Programme:

  • A candidate must have passed the B.Sc. (Agri), B.V.Sc. & A.H., B.E. (Agril. Engineering), B.Sc. (Dairy Science), B.Sc. (Home Science) of 4 year duration, B.F.Sc. or B.Sc. (Forestry) (as the case may be), B.Sc.(Hons) Agri/Hort/H.Sc./Forestry/B.Tech (Ag. Engg.) degree examination of this University or any other University recognized by this University securing a minimum CGPA of 2.60 in 4.00 or 3.25/5.00 or 6.60/10.00 for Gen/OBC/UPS category and 2.20/4.00 or 2.75/5.00 or 5.60/10.00 for SC/ST/DAC category.
  • This is relaxable to candidates having 5 years of service experience and deputed by Govt. of Assam to a CGPA 2.30 in 4.00 scale or 5.70 in 10.00 scale or 45.00% marks in traditional system.

Placements & Internships : One semester is purely internship based semester, and you will get an assured amount of stipend for it. Campus campaigns are also conducted for the final year students, and many amazing agriculture-based companies join in those campaigns.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : You should have passed 10+2 passed with science as the mainstream with the core subjects Biology, Physics, and Chemistry. The cut off will be announced before the admission begins, and are purely based on the PCB marks.

Fees & Scholarships : Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat Fee Structure. The course fee is about INR 20,000 per annum. This government-run university offers amazing scholarship options for the merit students. The top 20% of students of each batch can apply for the university merit scholarship.

Academics & Faculty : The class timing is from 8 am to 4 pm, including the practicals. Besides, the sports activities are also encouraged in the campus. It was indeed a great experience in college.

Placements & Internships : Many internship opportunities are open from 4th year of BSc (Hons) in AAU. The internship offered is INR 5,000-6,000 per month. So it's a great opportunity to earn as well as explore great experience out of it.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : It is the only agricultural university of Assam. The eligiblity is 10+2 with a minimum of 50% of marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. There is special reservations to acknowledge many specific qualities.

Placements & Internships : Yes, we have internship for the whole semester i.e 4th year 1st sem with stipend from the college itself. Also, scholarship for students of top 20 percentile. Private Companies like fertiliser based, seed, chemicals etc and some tea gardens come for campusing every year on a regular basis. Around 30-40% get placed rest go for higher studies we have a very strong alumni network.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : There are several ways to get entry to the college: 1) ICAR quota-Here they intake through examination held by ICAR AIEEA-UG. After which counselling takes place in New Delhi and are allotted on the basis of their rank. 2) State Merit List-This quota is for the students domicile of Assam. Here no entrance is held instead they are admitted on the basis of % obtained by them in Class 12  i.e. Physics, Chemistry & Biology. 3) NEC Quota- Students hailing from other North East State except Assam. 4) HFC- High fee Category, They pay higher fees and get admitted on merit basis  Last year for state merit General cutoff was around 89%

Fees & Scholarships : As I belong from state merit list my fee is around Rs 12000 per annum. Except Mess dues on monthly basis. State Merit Scholarship, Scholarship by other companies etc. are available. Around top 20 percentile students get scholarships. No loan is not that frequent but might be needed for HFC, since its a Government institution loans are easier to avail.

Academics & Faculty : We have classes from 8 am to 4 pm mostly. Regular assignments are given and exam conducted twice in a semester ie mid sem & end sem. Quality is good as all the classrooms are smart and have AV aids also the practical classes are fully equipped Overall its a great experience

College Infrastructure & Hostel Facilities : There are 13 hostels in the premise both boys and girls. Some are pretty good hostels and well maintained. There is no such hostel fee it is taken on the admission itself only we have to pay monthly for mess dues i.e on an average of Rs 1350 per month. There are PG available outside but no idea about price The mess is run by students itself so its obviously good. the whole campus has WLAN connection and some areas are free wifi

Clubs & Associations : There is students union body form every year through election. We have all the facilities for playing sports & games both indoor and outdoor, canteen is also very good Festival like Bishwakarma, Saraswati puja, Janmastomi etc are celebrated on a central basis The life in college is awesome
