Buxi Jagabandhu Bidyadhgar College was established in 1957 and is one of the premier educational institutions of Orissa. It is initiated by the Government of Orissa and is located over an area of 28.2 acres of land near National Highway connecting Cuttack and Puri. Till 1998, It was affiliated to Utkal University. It is Accredited to NAAC - A of UGC under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The college is guided by the noble mission “Learning for Leadership”.

Buxi Jagabandhu Bidyadhgar Admission can be done for regular courses in a degree of Bachelor in Arts, Science and Commerce and some selected Self-Financing Courses which is approved by the Government such as Master in Social Work, B.Sc with Honours in Biotechnology and Computer Science as well as Diploma in Medicinal Plant Management. 

The BJB college aims to provide a quality education through academic, cultural and physical activities and prepare the talented youth as responsible and useful citizens for effective participation in all areas of developmental process and nation-building. B.J.B Autonomous College is one of the first institutions in the state to introduce the Semester system in 2006-2007 following the guidelines of UGC.

Buxi Jagabandhu Bidyadhar Facilities:

BJB College Bhubaneswar has commendable infrastructure facilities. The College has 42 classrooms. 8 galleries and 3 halls. It has a sprawling playground catering to both indoor and outdoor games and sports requirements. The College has well-equipped laboratories for the students.

The Computer lab facilities are available through the joint collaboration of the College and the Computer Point. It can be used by the Students and the Staff as when required. Each department of the college has one or more Pentium dual-core computers with internet facility. Two new computer lab has constructed for the Department of  Mathematics and Statistics.

The College has a Seminar Library besides each department. Books and Journals are obtained every year for the use of the students and the teachers. There are 63,521 books and 835 periodicals in the library. 

The institution has a sprawling playground of 22,317 sq.mts available for both indoor games and sports requirements for the students. BJB college has earned an excellent name in the field of sports. It has bagged the university championship in Basket Ball and Cricket in 2007-08. Students have represented the University in the East Zone Inter-University Cricket and Basket Ball Tournaments.

BJB College Bhubaneswar conducts coaching classes for academically disadvantaged students in general. A Remedial Coaching Centre for SC/ST students has been instituted since February 2007 with the support of UGC which helps them to assist in their academic pursuits.

The Women's cell of the college aims to protect the dignity and rights of the women students has been in operation since 2000-2001. Other than the Women cell, an anti-ragging cell has been formed in accordance with the orders of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. Also besides the canteen, there is a post office on the campus. The college has an impressive Alumni Association registered under the name B.J.B Friends which meets annually. It is a major source of strength for the college.

Another cell called the Students’ Grievances  Redressal Cell has been formed to receive complaints from students and ensure justice. Students’ Representatives and the faculties are taken as the members of the Cell. There is also an Information Dissemination Cell Under the Right to Information Act which is meant to disseminate relevant information to anyone on matters relating to the college. The college has a number of expensive types of equipment. All the departments, the Office, the Library and Examination Section are equipped with computers and 24 hours broadband internet facility.
