Cotton University has been known for providing affordable and quality education for a century. Cotton University offers 28 undergraduate and 32 postgraduate courses. Cotton University is well known for its BSc, BA, BCA, MA, MSc, MCA, and LL.M courses. Faculties teach with examples and try to keep the classroom sessions interactive. Usage of projectors has been made frequently by faculites to enhance the learning experience for students.
As Cotton University amenities are modernized, each subject has separate departments with at least two experienced faculties. CU offers commendable scholarship facilities for students from various backgrounds, which is one of the primary reasons for students to opt for Cotton University.
One of the important reasons for choosing Cotton University is its experienced faculty. The faculty of CU is highly efficient and experienced in its respective subjects. 90% of the faculty prefer to teach in English and are also available to teach in Hindi and the local language. Students from other North East states face no language barrier as faculties communicate in Hindi and English.
Past students believe that the Cotton University faculties are friendly and approachable. To keep the classroom sessions lively and interactive, faculties often use projectors. Also, they teach based on the syllabus, which is approved by the Board and required for the current competitive world.
Cotton University's infrastructure is simple yet elegant. The University has provided all the basic facilities for its students and asked them to utilize them fully. The University classrooms have all the basic modern-day facilities like digital boards, projectors, loudspeakers, and more. The centralized library of the University contains a considerable collection of books, e-books, and journals.
The Cotton University campus is under 24/7 CCTV surveillance to ensure the safety of students. The other infrastructural facilities Cotton University offers are hostels, a gymnasium, indoor and outdoor sports facilities, and others.
Cotton University currently has five boys hostels and three girls hostels. There are twin-sharing and triple-sharing rooms with all the basic amenities like beds, chairs, cupboards, study tables, etc. Admission to the hostel is based on merit and a first come, first service basis. The hostel fee of the University is affordable. The hostel fee, on average, would be around INR 9,500 per year. However, fees vary as per the kind of accommodation chosen.
Cotton University hostel rooms are well maintained, and they are under 24/7 CCTV surveillance to ensure the safety of students. Hostel mess food is hygienic and of quality. Hostel affairs are looked after by the University officials, and they respond to students' queries quickly.
As the hostel rooms are filled on merit, students also have the option of staying in Paying Guest (PGs) nearby. According to the students' reaction, PGs around the campus are expensive compared to the University hostel. Students can find good PGs within a 1 km radius of the campus.
Being one of the oldest universities in the country, CU still needs to work on providing decent placement opportunities. As per the NIRF 2022 report, only 13 UG and 95 PG students were placed during 2022 Cotton University placements. NIRF 2022 report further stated that the average salary for a 3-Year UG course was around 4.5L per anum and 3.6L per anum for PG courses.
Cotton University does not provide any internship opportunities for students, which depletes placement rates. Also, lack of placement training and poor networking with major recruiters often forces students to look for job beyond placements.
Though the University has a good alumni network, past students believe that no significant companies visit the campus for hiring, and not even local companies show any interest.
Cotton University attracts students from various parts of North East India. Students opt for CU for its quality and affordable education. Being one of the prominent University in the North East region, students form Assam, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Megalaya can be found abundantly in the campus. Hence, there is diversity among students.
Assamese is the local language, and faculty members choose to teach mainly in English, followed by Assamese and Hindi. Students from other states do not feel a communication barrier.
Cotton University is known for its discipline, as it asks students to follow specific rules and regulations. Ragging is completely banned and punishable. Life at CU seems busy throughout the year because of the hectic academic schedule. However, various cultural and academic related committees run by students frequently conduct events to keep the campus environment happening and jovial.
There is no strict dress code imposed on students. However, UG students are asked to wear uniforms on particular days. Students must have at least 75% attendance to be eligible for the annual examination. Students must strictly abide by the rules and regulations of the University.
