Gobardanga Hindu College, a government-sponsored co-educational degree college, is affiliated with West Bengal State University, Barasat, North 24 Parganas. Established on November 27, 1947, the college has grown through significant historical, political, and cultural events. Its foundation was supported by academics from Daulatpur College (now in Khulna, Bangladesh, formerly part of undivided Bengal’s Jessore district) and the Mukherjee family, who donated part of the land for the college.
Initially offering only a few subjects, the college now provides courses in 23 subjects across Arts, Science, and Commerce streams. It also offers postgraduate programs in Bengali, Education, and History, benefiting many students. Additionally, the college has a B.Ed section on its extensive campus.
Gobardanga Hindu College has been accredited with an “A” grade by NAAC in 2005 and 2016. It is also a recipient of funding under the RUSA scheme by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

Meritorious students from economically weak backgrounds can receive special scholarships from the college. However, students who have already received financial support through government scholarships, stipends, or other sources are not eligible for this benefit. Additionally, all students who achieve first-class marks in Honours, General, Post-Graduation, or B.Ed. university exams are awarded a yearly scholarship of ₹2,000.
