Derozio Memorial College was established in 1996 with support from local residents and efforts of the chairman and members of Rajarhat-Gopalpur Municipality. It was named after Henry Louis Vivian Derozio the doyen of 'Young Bengal Movement' and the first Anglo-Indian Poet of the 19th Century. Peer teams of college, appreciate the notable progress of the budding college in translating its vision and goals towards attaining the laid down objectives through a process-oriented approach. The faculty of the college continuously work towards the overall development of the college.

They have been achieving milestones and actively playing their part in keeping the college's banner flying high. They are hoping to create a respected atmosphere for education and a healthy environment where work, sports and co-curricular activities will mould their students and spur them on to be the brightest and the best. The mission of the college is to provide leadership that would promote safe and orderly learning where students are challenged, engaged and supported towards achieving academic standards while developing their social skills at the same time. The College encourages parents and teachers to work together to inculcate certain values in the students which will help them to reach the highest level of achievement. The College was selected among 200 colleges in the community college scheme which was newly introduced by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development, Govt. of India. The scheme was started as an alternative system of education which empowers individuals through appropriate skill development leading to employment in collaboration with the local industry and community. This scheme offers educational opportunities to all sections of society, particularly the marginalized and disadvantaged.
