The college was established to commemorate shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The philanthropists and the well-wishers of the city Moga and the surrounding area set up the college aiming to provide the all-round development of the students by laying special stress on moral upliftment along with other extracurricular activities. In light of the great sentence ‘GHARIYE SURAT MUT MAN BUDHI’ Guru Nanak Education Trust was formed which was also further set up as a managing committee. This committee made the foundations of the college strong, during the years 1971 to 1978. After this time, the whole management of the college came under Shrimoni Gurduwara Parbhandak Committee (SGPC) Amritsar. In the initial years the commencement for higher education, the college was only for boys with the subjects of Arts. Later, in 1991-92 co-education was introduced.
