Q: What was the highest and average package offered at IIT Bhilai in the latest placement season?

A: During the 2024 placement season, IIT Bhilai recorded a significant peak with the highest domestic package reaching INR 48.92 LPA. The overall average package for the year stood at approximately INR 13.02 LPA, while the median package was reported at INR 11 LPA. For the ongoing 2025 season, early reports indicate a strong start with hundreds of offers already extended, though final average figures will be consolidated upon the season's conclusion.

Q: Which academic branches performed the best in terms of placement percentage?

A:  The Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DSAI) and Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) branches continue to be the top performers. In 2024, M.Tech programs in CSE and DSAI achieved a remarkable 100% placement rate. At the undergraduate level, the B.Tech DSAI branch saw a placement rate of approximately 93.75%, followed closely by CSE. While core branches like Electrical and Mechanical Engineering also saw steady recruitment, the tech-heavy disciplines remains the primary drivers for the institute’s high placement statistics.

Q: Who are the prominent recruiters that visited the IIT Bhilai campus recently?

A:  IIT Bhilai has attracted a diverse range of prestigious recruiters across IT, core engineering, and consulting sectors. Top names include global giants like Google, Amazon, and Intuit, along with industry leaders such as NVIDIA, Deloitte, and TATA Consultancy Services (TCS). Other significant participants include Sprinklr, Paytm, L&T, HCL Technologies, and Mahindra. Interestingly, the institute has also seen a rise in international opportunities, with companies like Accenture (Japan) participating in recent drives, further expanding the global reach for graduating students.

Q: What is the current placement procedure for companies looking to hire from the campus?

A:  The placement process is managed by the Centre for Career Planning and Services (CCPS). It begins with companies registering on the official portal and submitting a Placement Notification Form (PNF) detailing job roles and CTC. This is followed by Pre-Placement Talks (PPTs), which usually commence in August. After the PPTs, companies conduct online or offline technical tests and interviews to shortlist candidates. Finally, the CCPS office coordinates the release of offer letters to ensure a streamlined and transparent hiring experience for both students and employers.

Q: How does the institute support students in securing summer and winter internships?

A:  IIT Bhilai places a strong emphasis on practical exposure through its dedicated internship cell. For the 2024-2025 cycle, over 80 internship offers were made by more than 30 companies, including NVIDIA and JSL. The institute facilitates both summer internships (May–July) and shorter winter internships (December). The average stipend for these roles hovers around INR 20,000 per month, with some high-end roles offering up to INR 40,000. These internships often serve as a gateway to Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs), significantly boosting final placement prospects.

Q: What is the sector-wise distribution of placements at IIT Bhilai?

A:  The Information Technology (IT) sector dominates the placement landscape, accounting for approximately 33.3% of the total offers. This is followed by Core Engineering roles at 18% and Teaching & Research at 15.4%. Other notable sectors include Consulting (11.5%), Finance (6.4%), and Analytics (5.1%). In terms of company types, private sector firms make up the bulk of recruiters (around 65%), while startups and multinational corporations (MNCs) contribute about 15.4% and 16.7%, respectively. This distribution highlights the versatile skill sets of the student body.

Q: Has the placement rate seen any significant changes over the last few years?

A:  IIT Bhilai’s placement rate has shown resilience despite global market fluctuations. While the rate peaked at nearly 87% in 2023, the 2024 season saw a slight dip to an overall 70%. This variation is largely attributed to a significant increase in the number of registered students and a cautious hiring sentiment in the global tech industry. However, the 2025 session is looking promising, with over 500 offers already recorded in early rounds, suggesting a strong recovery and growth in the institute's year-on-year placement performance.
