IIT Ropar offers various scholarships to students. These scholarships are provided based on a few conditions that a student must fulfil. More details regarding the IIT Ropar scholarships are mentioned below.

MCM Scholarships

Undergraduate engineering and technology students can apply for merit-cum-means scholarships. The scholarship for general category students is Rs 1000 per month, and the beneficiary is exempt from paying tuition fees. At the time of enrollment, 4-year B.Tech. Students are eligible for the scholarship. For the first year, the AIR in the JEE is the measure of merit. The IIT Ropar scholarships are renewed every year until they complete all of the program's academic requirements.

  • The students performance will be evaluated after each semester to ensure the continuation of the scholarships. The first of these evaluations will occur at the end of the second semester.
  • The CGPA must be at least 6.0.
  • The number of credits earned should be at least 20 times the number of semesters registered.
  • The preceding semester SGPA must be at least 6.0.

Merit Prizes and Certificates

For the first and second semesters, the IIT Ropar awards merit prizes and certificates to the top 7% of students in each 4-year B.Tech program. The merit reward is worth Rs. 2500. The following are the rules:

  • In order of merit, the top 7% of students admitted or sanctioned capacity, whichever is fewer, will be eligible for merit prizes and certificates. If the 7% maximum is surpassed due to many students with the same merit, those students will be eligible for these rewards. Students with an SGPA or CGPA of less than 8.50 would be disqualified from receiving merit prizes and certificates.
  • If the departmental strength is less than 7%, the students with the highest CGPA will be granted merit rewards of Rs 2500, subject to a minimum of 8.5.
  • All students eligible for merit rewards will receive a prize of Rs.2500. This is in addition to any other scholarships the student may get from any source.
  • Each semester, the prize will be granted to the top 7% of students based on their SGPA from the previous semester.
  • The prize for first-year students will be granted in the second semester and will be based on their achievement in the first semester.
  • There will be a common merit list of all students for first-year students. The merit list will be organised by discipline from the second through the fifth year.
  • Any student who has less than 18 earned credits in the semester under consideration is not eligible for merit prizes, except for final semester students. All credits obtained by the student in courses repeated during the semester in question will not be counted against those mentioned above 18 earned credits.
  • All graduating students who fall within the 7% restriction will be evaluated for rewards based on their SGPA during the 8th or 10th semester. In the event of a tie, the student with the higher CGPA shall receive the merit reward.

Dual Degree Scholarship

  • Students in the B.Tech-M.Tech dual degree programs with exemplary academic performance are awarded an IIT Ropar scholarship in their final year compared to that provided to M.Tech students.

Studentship program

Based on financial need, the college offers free studentships to 10% of students. The beneficiary is not required to pay the tuition charge. The scholar must meet the following criteria to keep their free studentship:

  • CGPA must be at least 6.0.
  • The number of credits earned should be at least 20 times the number of semesters the candidate has registered.
  • The preceding semester's SGPA must be at least 6.0.

Scholarships for SC and ST categories

  • Tuition fee waivers are available to all SC and ST students, regardless of their parents or guardians income.
  • Only SC and ST students whose annual household income does not exceed the level stipulated by the Government of India are eligible for a scholarship of Rs. 300 per month and exemption from paying hostel room rent. In lieu of the scholarship amount, students can choose between free mess facilities (basic menu) and a monthly pocket allowance of Rs. 250. All eligible SC/ST students on training or doing courses during semester breaks, or exempted to take meals from the hostel due to medical reasons, etc., shall be paid a pocket allowance of Rs. 70 per month and a per diem allowance in lieu of free mess facilities based on the average rate of mess charges as applicable from time to time.
  • If an SC and ST candidate fails the examination for the first time, the award may be renewed for a maximum of five years.

Scholarship for Post-Metric Students

  • SC and ST students can apply for the State Government's Post-Metric Scholarship. 

Additional Scholarships

  • Apart from the IIT Ropar scholarships mentioned above, non-governmental organisations and external bodies offer a few other scholarships.
