The Jeppiaar Engineering College was founded in 2001 was by the Late Col. Dr. Jeppiaar M.A., B.L., Ph.D. in Chennai, India. It has become one of the leading technical institutes of the country offering various engineering courses at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctorate levels. It is affiliated to Anna University, Chennai; and is NBA and AICTE approved.

There are many facilities provided by the college for the overall development of the students. The Institute has multiple laboratories, for each department and common labs for first-year courses. The Labs are air-conditioned and have internet facilities.  The college has a spacious library that is centrally air-conditioned with access to a large collection of print and e-resources. The Institute has memberships to other Institutional libraries in Chennai, such as the British Council Library, Indian Institute of Technology, and Anna University.

There are over 40 buses available for students and staff to use and operate throughout the city. No private vehicles, like cars or two-wheelers, are allowed on campus. The mess can accommodate over 2500 students and has a dining hall, kitchen, and ice-cream parlor. It serves all three meals, as well as, snacks, tea, etc., which are for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. The institute has one auditorium and two conference halls.
