“With appealing disciplines and programs, the education at KL University is highly expensive and less fruitful. Students with big ambitions must think twice before joining the university.”

From the feedback of the students who studied at KL University, located in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, the university could be better in terms of academic benefits and future opportunities. According to them, the university is a money-making establishment with strict and unreasonable rules for students. Most of the students who joined for different courses regretted their decision to join the university and were unable to leave it because of its refund policies. 

As per various reviews on the online search portals, students have faced many issues while at the university, including the lack of proper academic training and career opportunities. KLU is considered to be the best in the state as there are few private universities in Andhra Pradesh.

Only those who did not manage to get admission to any other colleges/universities can join the university. They must consider other colleges before they make the final decision, as the withdrawal of admission from here can cost them more than half of the admission fee.

Colleges and Programs at KL University

The university provides several courses in different disciplines, including professional programs like Engineering, Law, Architecture, and Pharmacy. Each field has separate colleges, with various departments for each domain. The main colleges under KL University are for the following fields.

KL University provides admission to over 153 programs in total through the colleges mentioned above. The university offers several fancy courses in undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programs, which attract students. These programs are unique due to the lack of more quality universities in and around the state.

The Engineering department is considered to be one of the only good departments in the university, but the tuition fees are more expensive than those in other good universities. Students are enticed to join KLU due to the number of unique fields that are available here, such as follows.

KL University is well known for its impressive infrastructure, with greenery and advanced facilities. As per various reviews on the online search portals, students are forced to believe that they will have a good campus life here with the fascinating features of the university, including well-equipped laboratories and good in-campus hostel facilities. The university makes use of the money it milk from its students to make improvements to the campus, which helps it get more students every year. 

Central Library

The central library has been active in the university since its establishment, with a large collection of books and resources, which include specialized books and journals for each of the disciplines available here. The library has centralized air-conditioning, with well-furnished seating arrangements to accommodate over 1000 students at once. The university has brought about several new changes to the library to cater to both national and international students. 

The central library has an automated system, such as the KOHA software and RFID technology, through which students can self-check-in and check-out books without having to seek assistance from the librarians.

Laboratories

The campus infrastructure includes technically advanced laboratories with advanced software and other facilities for each of the departments, with improvements implemented every year. The university labs are one of the best parts of studying here. The types of labs included in the KL University infrastructure are listed below.

Hi-Tech Classrooms

The university has a sufficient number of air-conditioned classrooms, with CCTV cameras installed in all. These classrooms are equipped with computer systems to add to the interactive learning environment, which is rare compared to the other universities.

Canteen & Cafeteria

The university has a hygienic canteen and central cafeteria where fast-food counters and mini cafes are available for the students. The canteen serves both North and South Indian cuisines. Both the faculties and students have a relaxed atmosphere in the canteen to hang out after a long day. The canteen is generally active from 6:30 AM to 8:30 PM.

On-Campus Accommodation

KL University has well-furnished hostels for boys and girls with modern amenities, spacious dining areas and other facilities. The hostels have Wi-Fi connections with power backup generators. There are 3 hostels for girls and 4 for boys. Each hostel has a different room system with attached bathrooms, along with the availability of air-conditioned deluxe rooms. 

The university has ensured the safety of students through experienced wardens and security personnel. Students will be provided with immediate medical assistance when required as well. However, the hostel fees quoted by the university for all these facilities are higher than an average college hostel, but overall, it ensures the safety and comfort of the students.

Although the university is spread over 50 acres of land, with the increased number of students every year, the campus is slowly becoming overcrowded. The campus needs to be expanded to accommodate the increasing number of students, hence making it difficult for the students to access the facilities without standing in queues and waiting around.

Campus Life in General

Students have the opportunity to pursue their interests in co-curricular activities and their other skills by being involved in the clubs and society student chapters. The university has around 32 clubs for the student’s hobbies and 21 tech clubs that encourage them to enhance their technological skills. It also has 30 professional society student chapters.

In order to motivate students to be more socially responsible, the university has included NSS, NCC and Youth Red Cross schemes, as well as a Centre for Extension Activities. To add to the safety of the students, the university has maintained an anti-ragging campus over the years.

The university conducts national-level sports competitions, cultural festivals and techno-management events every year through which students are given opportunities to showcase their talents and abilities. 

The university has a diverse campus with students from all walks of life, along with international students for some courses. The management assures an all-inclusive environment to help students flourish academically as well as socially.

University Dress Code

KL University does not have a particular uniform for the students. However, there is a certain dress code that must be followed, as the authorities are strict when it comes to discipline. Students are prohibited from wearing the following on the campus.

• Open-toed shoes/chappals
• Folded trousers/shorts
• Distressed/torn jeans.

For Girls

Faculties at KL University

According to the past and present students of the university, most of the faculties here are inferior, with no proper knowledge or experience in their field of study, hence failing at imparting quality education to the students. 

Per student’s opinions on the internet, some teachers have PhDs, but their teaching could be better. For selected departments, like Computer Science Engineering, there are qualified professors whose classes are useful for the students. But, in most cases, the teachers are just very strict and more focused on bringing students into line with the rules and regulations of the university. They are very strict about attendance and punctuality and are known to take away the mobile phones of students without warning. It is said that the students consider themselves lucky if they get classes with qualified and experienced faculties.

Besides, for reasons unknown to the students, the faculties find it difficult to stay at the university, resulting in them leaving without prior notice. This leads to losing good professors leaving the university every year. The faculty-to-student ratio has been inversely proportional over the years as well.

Bogus Placements

Although the university claims to have a 100% placement rate, students have mentioned that the placement opportunities here could be more satisfactory. Students have had to pay the university to get jobs through the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) system. Software Engineering graduates are the only category of students who receive decent salary offers from good companies. 

Placement opportunities are accessible, but it is not as good as the other universities that offer similar kind of courses. However, the university is said to provide placement training and specialized training programs for its students to prepare them for the interviews with the participating companies. 

According to the university’s official website, over 1000 companies have participated in the placement drive. Students are offered an average of INR 5.21 lakhs per annum, with the highest pay package being INR 25 lakhs per annum.

The students have pointed out that the 100% placements factor is true, but the jobs are not as impressive as it portrays to be. Only those students who meet the eligibility criteria after special training programs are allowed to participate in the good placement interviews.

Expensive Education

The university is infamous for its expensive tuition fees, which do not match the quality of education provided. The course-wise fees per year for different undergraduate and postgraduate programs offered by KL University differ from course to course. 

For Engineering programs, the average fees per year for different specializations fall between INR 1,35,000 and INR 2,85,000. Whereas for Management programs, the tuition fee per year range from INR 2,00,000 to INR 6,00,000, based on the programs.

For other undergraduate programs, such as B.Arch, B.Pharma, BBA with LLB, and so on, the fee structure is between INR 1,55,000 and INR 2,95,000. The average fee per year for master's programs range from INR 95,00,000 to INR 2,55,000.

Accreditations & Rankings

KL University has been accredited by several prestigious councils and organizations over the years. The main accreditations of the university are below.

• Accredited an ‘A++’ grade with a 3.75 CGPA by NAAC of UGC.
• All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, approved.

In addition to the above accreditations, the university has also been ranked by NIRF in different positions overall and for other departments in 2022. The overall NIRF 2022 rankings for KL University was 54.

Overall, the university has several negative factors, with few positive remarks. As per various insights on the online search portals, most of the students who graduated from KL University were not satisfied with the academics provided by the university and their placement opportunities. Yet, some students managed to get placed in reputed companies with the help of selected faculty members.
