Loreto College, Kolkata was established in 1912. It is a women’s college affiliated to the University of Calcutta. It was the first college in West Bengal to be assessed by NAAC. It was awarded the highest rating of five stars in 2000.
Loreto College was Re-accredited by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) in December 2006 and was awarded an A grade. The College had the 3rd Cycle of Re-accreditation by NAAC in September 2012 and was awarded an A grade. The college was recognized by the N.C.T.E. (National Council of Teacher Education) and was awarded the B++ grade by NAAC in 2003. The UGC (University Grants Commission) has recognized Loreto College as a College with Potential for Excellence in 2006 and again in 2011.
The University Grants Commission has awarded the college with a new Certified Career Oriented Course in Human Rights & Empowerment with effect from July 2013.
Loreto College Kolkata Admissions will be made on the basis of merit. The college aims to develop high academic standards and inculcate values of leadership, commitment, and selfless service.
Loreto College Kolkata began as an extension of the School Department of Loreto House. To inculcate computer literacy and proficiency in all students, the college provides a self-financing Computer Centre. A Women’s Cell conducts classes for economically and socially deprived illiterate young women. It aims at employment through literacy and skills.
