MGMIHS was established under the MGM Trust in 1982 by Shri Kamalkishor N. Kadam, to impart quality health science education through innovative pedagogical techniques. The Trust has, since then extended its services all over Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh through health care, education, and professional developments.

The University was conferred Deemed to be University status by UGC in 2006. It offers a wide range of medical and allied health programs. It is accredited with an A++ grade by NAAC and ranked among India's top 200 universities in NIRF 2023. Its medical colleges are NABH accredited, and the hospitals at both Navi Mumbai and Aurangabad campuses have a combined capacity of 2500 beds.

It operates programs from two campuses-including medical, nursing, physiotherapy, pharmacy, and biomedical sciences-and has high research orientation in tuberculosis, diabetes, and mental health. MGMIHS has made significant social contributions; some examples are as follows: it has adopted 10 villages through Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan.

In research, MGMIHS published more than 3,800 papers, filed 15 patents, and received Rs 4.83 Crore in research grants. Innovation is also promoted through an Incubation & Innovation Centre, and an institutional member of the MHRD's IIC.

MGMIHS maintains a commitment to community engagement through awards for excellence in community service and in healthcare. With 5,000 students and 500 faculty members, it will continue to uphold quality standards set by the UGC, including meeting all aspects associated with the NEP 2020..

Mahatma Gandhi Mission Institute of Health Sciences (MGMIHS), a Deemed University established in 1982, offers UG, PG, Doctoral, and PG Diploma programs through its seven constituent institutes. Key programs include MBBS, B.Sc. (Nursing, Paramedical), Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing, MD, MS, MPT, M.Sc., and Ph.D. in nine specializations.
