Malnad College of Engineering was established in the year 1960, during the second five-year plan, as a joint venture of Government of India, Government of Karnataka and the Malnad Technical Education Society, Hassan. The Malnad College of Engineering is now a reputed Engineering college in the country. The college has earned the “ISTE Award '' as one of the Best Engineering Colleges in the Country, in the year 2007. The Institute is located midway, between Bengaluru and Mangaluru. Hassan a district headquarters, having a steady temperate climate throughout the year, enjoys an annual rainfall of about 900 mm. World-famous temples of Belur, Halebidu, Shravanabelagola, and The Master Control Facility for INSAT Satellites are located in Hassan District. The College is built on a 41.28 acres campus and has all the facilities expected in a modern Engineering College. The college offers nine B.E, five M.Tech, M.Sc.(Engg.) by Research, Ph.D. and MCA programs, with about 4000 students on rolls. The college is one of the few Engineering Colleges in the country recognized for conducting the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) sponsored by the World Bank. The Training and Placement center in the college trains and assists the students in securing employment in reputed companies like Tata Consultancy, Infosys, Wipro, L&T, BEL, Fistchner, Builders’ Association of India, etc., through campus recruitment program. Applicants seeking admission to undergraduate courses must have completed senior secondary school. Deserving students can avail of several scholarships awarded by the Government of Karnataka. Scholarship details can be obtained from the college official website. Scholarships and the corresponding applications that can be obtained from the Admission and Scholarship section during the month of August every year from college. The admission course at MCE is based on the Karnataka CET ranking. Few of the B.E. seats are reserved for management quota. Candidates who have completed their 10 + 2 studies with Physics, Mathematics, and English as compulsory subjects are eligible to apply. Applications for the M.Tech. course are accepted from candidates who have completed their undergraduate studies and have taken up the GATE entrance exam. Candidates who are holders of a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with minimum 50% aggregate marks in the qualifying degree examination are eligible to apply for the MCA course. The institute offers several merits and sports scholarships to meritorious candidates showing excellent performance in academics and sports.

The application form consists of various sections such as Courses applied for, Name of Candidate, Father's Name, Mother’ s Name, D.O.B along with nationality and entrance exam appeared in for the particular course. For B.E. admission is done through the Karnataka CET Mode of application online for KCET. Visit the official website of KCET Karnataka and fill-up the application form. Pay the application fees of INR 650 (for General / OBC), INR 500 (for SC / ST), and INR 750 (for other states). Application fee can be paid online via debit/ credit card or net banking. Registration for the counseling process will commence after the announcement of CET results. For M.Tech. admission is done through GATE Mode. Register online at the official GATE website. Upload photograph, signature, thumb impression, graduation certificate and caste certificate, if applicable and submit. The application fee for GATE is as follows. Male candidates (General / OBC) - INR 1500. Women candidates of any category – INR 750. SC / ST / PwD candidates - INR 750.
MCE provides B. Tech. in three specializations such as Computer Science Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. All the undergraduate courses are for four years. Applicants can apply online by filling out the application form on the official website and paying the application fee through online mode. After the entrance examinations, the students who get selected in the merit list will be notified to appear for the personal interview. Admissions are done as per the Government of Karnataka and AICTE Norms. Candidates have to apply and appear for the Common Entrance Test (CET). Further, they have to participate in the counseling process for choice filling and seat allotment. Final admissions will be on the basis of merit of the Common Entrance Test (CET) and counseling. Allotment of B.E. seats at Malnad College of Engineering are based on the candidates’ performance in KCET Karnataka CET examination. Candidates who have completed their 10 + 2 studies with Physics, English, and Mathematics as compulsory and have scored 45% minimum marks in the final examination are eligible to apply for the CET examination conducted by Karnataka Examination Authority. Candidates belonging to the following reserved categories – SC, ST Category 1 and OBC need to score minimum of 40% marks in the 10 + 2 examinations. Candidates who are waiting for the results of the qualifying examinations are also eligible to take up the Karnataka CET.

Malnad College of Engineering offers M.Tech in five different specializations and MCA at the postgraduate level. Final selection of candidates in M.Tech. the course will be based on their performance in the GATE entrance examination. MCA admission will be on the basis of merit in the qualifying exam. Candidates who are holders of a Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or are currently studying their final year of undergraduate studies are eligible to apply for M.Tech. Candidates with 50% marks in bachelor’s degree in any discipline with Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer Programming/ Computer Science/ Computer Applications as a subject of study at 10 + 2 level are eligible to apply for the MCA course. Candidates who have graduated from universities other than in Karnataka have to obtain and submit eligibility certificates from Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belgaum. Candidates have to apply and appear for the GATE exam. Admissions will be on the basis of GATE scores. Candidates shortlisted on the basis of GATE scores will be offered admission. The admission is through the Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by the Department for Technical Education in Karnataka. However, there are a few seats available with the management.
