Established in 1981, Sri Krishnadevaraya University began as a postgraduate center of Sri Venkateswara University in 1967 and became autonomous in 1976. Initially a unitary university, it gained affiliating status in 1988 and now serves the higher education needs of Rayalaseema, particularly Ananthapuramu District. The Kurnool Postgraduate Centre, brought under SKU in 1993, became a separate university in 2008.The university's campus spans 482 acres, located 10 km from Ananthapuramu city, and features academic buildings, hostels, and staff quarters. It has five constituent colleges:
- College of Arts: 13 departments offering 18 PG and one UG program.
- College of Sciences: 16 departments with 19 PG courses.
- College of Engineering and Technology: Established in 2006, offering B.Tech in five branches and M.Tech in three.
- College of Education: Offers B.Ed. and M.Ed. programs since 2007.
- College of Pharmacy: Offers B.Pharm and M.Pharm (three specializations) since 2008.
