Dr. MGR Medical University Departments
Department of Experimental Medicine:
This department was established in 1992 with the main emphasis on HIV/ AIDS and Leptospirosis. The department achieved the recognition from The National AIDS Control Organization [NACO], Government of India in 2009 to work as the Referral Laboratory for HIV DNA PCR testing.
Department of Epidemiology:
The department was established in 1997 with the help of the Government of Tamil Nadu.
Department of Medical Genetics:
This department was established in 2007. The department counsels and registers the referred patients from Government and Private institutions. The patients are referred to every Monday, Thursday, and Friday.
Department of Transfusion Medicine:
The department was created to spread awareness about blood donation. The department carries out many awareness campaigns to encourage people about voluntary blood donation.
Department of Medical Education Curriculum Development:
The job of this department is to create a systematically structured curriculum that will provide the Medical and para-medical graduates with the proper knowledge and skills to carry out the health care tasks.
Department of Immunology:
The department was established in 1998 to install a state of the art immunodiagnostic lab for sophisticated tests and to work on areas like Transplantation, hypersensitivity and rheumatological disorder, and organ-based diseases.
Department of Siddha:
The Siddha system originated in Tamil Nadu itself and is the most ancient among the AYUSH [Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy] systems. The department was established in 2007 to solidify the Siddha system and to standardize the Siddha drugs, clinical research and to impart education and to indulge in research.
