“Even after two decades after its establishment, Kota University has many rooms left for improvements. Its placement record presents an alarming situation of the university.”
Not many have come across Kota University. People are more aware of Kota City being the cradle of infinite coaching institutions that have sprung up over the last decade. The city is almost always bustling with students hoping to make the cut to the top colleges. While the city has become a shrine, it also infamously has become a place of shattered dreams for many pupils. The University of Kota stands a ray of hope in such a place. UOK has its own campus and affiliated colleges offering various programmes in different fields.
Despite its two decades of existence, Kota University has many facades to improve. Starting with the most poignant, its placements. For many of the departments, there is yet to be a placement event that is organised. It has since impacted several of the students. There is also a need for more latest technologies. However, what makes people choose UOK is its very affordable fees and knowledgeable faculty.
Table of Contents
Kota University offers undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes. These are provided in science, arts, law, technology, and more. As compared to other state universities, UOK follows a basic course structure. Though the guidelines by the UGC must have been observed, an innovative approach towards the course orientation is needed.
However, many students on different search portals have expressed their satisfaction towards the courses. The zoology department is among the best. Many students studying at the University of Kota wish to pursue higher studies or in the academic field.
The primary objective of choosing UOK for several students is the affordable course fees. For some courses, the fees can be as low as INR 8,727 for 2 years. Hence, students from various backgrounds can afford to study here.
The one aspect that makes UOK study worthwhile is its expert faculties. The faculty members hold doctorate degrees. This broadens the knowledge base of the students. They are also mindful and kind in their approach. Any student who needs help from the faculty is always welcome.
Even alumni and senior students have stressed that should any new students need to clarify their doubts, they should approach the faculties unhinged. The ratio of student-to-faculty is good. However, there is an urgent need to employ a few more faculty members for a few departments.
Kota University is not prominent in spending when it comes to infrastructure. Albeit, the present scenario paints a decent picture of the university’s facilities. The classrooms at the university are spacious and well-ventilated. Although it lacks the intelligent classes or other latest technologies.
The library is well-stocked and satisfies the academic needs of the students. Apart from this, the university also has the facilities of a computer centre, WiFi, transportation, medical, and many more. The laboratories are also well-equipped with many instruments available to the students.
Students are encouraged to participate in sports and extracurricular activities. The university premises have a badminton court, swimming pool, and more. It also houses a canteen that offers good quality food. There are no reports of any untoward incident on the campus. Tight security is all around, making it a safe place for the students.
Kota University has built reasonable accommodations for its students. The hostels are well maintained and comprise all the basic amenities. The rooms are spacious and ventilated. It also has established a dedicated mess facility providing food on a meal basis.
Since it is a government-built hostel, it is very affordable. The cost can range from INR 13,000 to INR 15,000 per year. The food cost can be only INR 20-23 per meal. Given this, it is safe to conclude that the hostel facilities overall are good.
Among all things, the placement record for Kota University is the most worrisome situation. The placement record is also meagre, as only 66 of 134 final-year students were placed. The placement cell at UOK is almost dysfunctional. It has not stood up to the mark to help apprise the companies or groom the students in soft skills.
The highest package offered received for the last season was INR 3.2 LPA, while the median package was 2 LPA. Only a handful of good recruiters visit the campus for specific branches. Many departments do not have any placement facilities, leaving the students in doom after graduation.
The University of Kota urgently needs to look into its placement scenario. While providing the students with a good education and curriculum is paramount, equal importance should also be given to placements. Students ultimately look forward to earning money at the end of their studies.
Kota University’s students enjoy a healthy campus life. There are many cultural and sports activities that they can participate in. Students are actively involved in such activities. Since the UOK mainly draws students from the state of Rajasthan, not much diversity exists in the student pool. There are no strict rules or regulations barring the 75% attendance criteria. Although students must follow the basic rules to maintain the decorum. The university also does not impose any dress code or uniform.
Kota University offers good courses with good faculties for students whose budget for higher education is limited. If getting a good education is at the core of a student’s goal, then UOK would not disappoint them. Indeed, there is a lot of room for improvement regarding infrastructure, course structure and placement. For any pupil, if getting employment is the crux of their education, then they should be given a fair warning before opting for the University of Kota.
Without further delay, here’s a look at the pros and cons of Kota University:
