Uttarakhand Open University [UOU], Uttarakhand was established in the year 2005 by an Act of State Legislature. It promotes the dissemination of learning and knowledge through the medium of Open and Distance Learning (ODL). The vision of the University is to provide growth through quality higher education in the state of Uttarakhand.

UOU Nainital offers its programs through 300+ Study Centres established at different locations under eight Regional Centres at Dehradun, Roorkee, Uttarkashi, Dwarahat, Bageshwar, Pauri, Haldwani, and Pithoragarh. The University has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with several leading research institutions, companies, and professional bodies for the benefit of the students.

Through its diversity of syllabus, the University has left its own impression of creating a productive educational environment. UOU offers world-class educational programs in major disciplines such as Political Science, Economics, and Public Administration. Over 300+ study centers are established under the aegis of the University. Uttarakhand Open University Eligibility Criteria:

Find below the minimum eligibility criteria for UOU courses.

BA	The candidate must have passed 10+2 or equivalent
B.Com.	The candidate must have passed 10+2.
B.Sc.	The candidates must have completed 10+2 in the Science stream
MA	Home Science: Candidate must have passed B.A. Home Science or B.Sc. Home Science. Geography: Candidate must have cleared graduation with Geography. Geo- Informatics: Candidate must have completed graduation with Arts/ Commerce stream from a UGC recognized University. Other courses: Candidate must have completed graduation in any stream.
MBA	The candidate must have a bachelor’s degree with 50% marks along with 2 years of supervisory/ managerial/ professional/ teaching experience.
MCA	The candidate must have passed BCA/ Bachelor degree in Computer Science Engineering or an equivalent degree like PGDCA from a UGC recognized University or a B.Sc./ B.Com/ BA degree with mathematics at 10+2 or graduation level
M.Com	The candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce

Uttarakhand Open University Admission:

Students seeking higher education in distance learning mode can opt from different courses offered at UOU Haldwani. The University offers courses in BA, BBA, BSc, B.Com, BCA, etc., at UG level and MA, M.Sc, MBA, MCA, and M.Com at PG level. The University also offers Ph.D. in various specializations at the doctorate level.

UOU Applications are invited for admission 2 times a year during Summer Session and Winter Session.
Admission applications for one session are not valid for the other session.
The candidates applying for UG and PG programs can apply in either online or offline mode.
Admission is carried out based on first-cum-first-serve basis.
UOU MBA admission requires students to sit for the CAT or MAT exam.

FAQs on Uttarakhand Open University

Q: Can we enroll for Admission or Examination in two different Programs?

A: If a student is enrolled in any program and have passed the first year/semester examination, wishes to suspend that program and apply for admission in a new program, the students can do so if they fulfill the following conditions: Only those students who have passed the first year/semester examination of the Program in which they are enrolled are eligible for this facility. The student seeking to suspend the present program of study, so as to apply for admission in a new program, can duly submit his/her application to the Director of Admission within the prescribed date for new admission. Only after completing the second (new) program of study, the student will be allowed admission in the second year/semester of the previous suspended program. The student availing this facility will have to complete both the programs within the time limit permissible at the time of admission in the first program. For example, if a student enrolled in an MA program, decides to suspend it after passing the first year examination and seeks admission in a new program, MBA, for example, he/she will have to complete both MA and MBA within 6 years from the date of enrollment in the MA program. A student can study and appear for the examination in only one-degree program in a given academic session. However, the students can opt for admission in Diploma/Certificate Program in addition to the degree programs.

Q: Is it possible to Change the Program/Subject/Course?

A: The students can change their Program/Subject/Course within 30 days of enrollment. Following will be the charges to be paid for doing so - Change of Study Centre: INR 500 Change of Programme: INR 1500 Change of Subject: INR 300

Q: How are the operations and program delivery carried out in UOU Nainital?

A: The educational programs of UOU operate on a three-tier arrangement namely - University Headquarter Regional Centres Study Centres The Regional Centres are located in different parts of the state and are administered by the University Headquarters. Every Regional Centre acts as a coordinating agency in the University and the many Study Centres. The Study Centres, in turn, discharge academic as well as administrative duties. All the counseling activities are carried out by the various Study Centres.
