Viswajyothi College of Engineering and Technology, established in 1999 by the Diocesan Technical Education Trust (DTET) under the Catholic Diocese of Kothamangalam, Kerala, was founded to transform technical education in the region. Initially affiliated with Mahatma Gandhi University, the college expanded rapidly with the introduction of B.Tech programs in various disciplines. In 2004, it added Electrical and Electronics Engineering, followed by Mechanical Engineering in 2002.
The college gained recognition with AICTE approval, NBA accreditation for its Computer Science and Electronics & Communication departments in 2010, and ISO certification. By 2015, it was affiliated with APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU). Leadership transitions included appointments of renowned figures, fostering academic growth, and technological advancements.
From 2018 onwards, the college expanded its international collaborations, entrepreneurial initiatives, and introduced new courses like Artificial Intelligence & Data Science and Hotel Management. In 2022, Viswajyothi received NAAC Grade A and re-accreditation from NBA. The college introduced the Bachelor of Hotel Management program and reached top rankings, securing the 13th position among KTU colleges.
In 2023 the establishment of the Computer Science & Design Department & the appointment of Rev. Dr. Paul Parathazham as Director marked the continued commitment to innovation. Today, Viswajyothi stands as a prominent institution in technical education, focusing on excellence, innovation, and holistic development
