A college with a legacy of 192 years, Wilson College in Mumbai has stood the testament of time. Its iconic architecture lends itself to an aura that beholds everyone. Wilsonians, as the college students are called, take immense pride in their college, and rightly so. Like its grand historic architecture, students experience one of the most enjoyable campus life. Professors are very friendly with their students. This also lends a fun aspect to the lectures the faculty members take.

The most distinct aspect of the college is that almost all students are immensely satisfied with their college experience. Whether in terms of academics, faculties, infrastructure, etc., everything is a perfect blend of fun and seriousness. Due to this, Wilson College is also one of the most sought-after colleges in the state. Moreover, it is located in a sea-face zone, lending an appeal, unlike any other college.

Wilson College, one of the country's oldest colleges, has mastered the craft of education. Its Chemistry department offers the best education in the whole of Mumbai. Academics at the college are not only sticking to the syllabus or theory part. Equal importance is given to practicals and theory. Moreover, the lectures are designed to encourage class participation and peer-to-peer interaction. Thus making it one of the most enriching experiences. 

Admission at Wilson College is based on the marks scored in the last qualifying exam. Each year, several students submit the forms to gain admission to a prestigious college. There is quite a competition in the admission process. The semester exams are easy to moderate in range, and most of the students can pass. The college offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programs. These are offered in various fields such as Science, Arts, Commerce, etc.

The curriculum includes the most updated syllabus and is regularly updated to add or remove any portion as deemed necessary. Since there is a large focus on practical aspects and learning through interaction, students get maximum benefit from such classes.

Moderately Expensive Course Fees

Wilson College’s academic fees vary depending on the course. While some courses like B.Sc, B.A, B.Com, etc have nominal fees, courses like M.Sc and BMS do not sit easily in the pockets. To pursue a B.Sc, B.A, and B.Com, students must pay INR 4,245; for an M.Sc, students must pay INR 10,985 yearly. The management committee grants a few scholarships to lower the course fees and help the students. However, these are not significant in number.

Scholarly Faculties

The faculties of Wilson College are an integral part of the education system. The primary reason students are willing to attend and enjoy the lectures is because of the professors. The faculty members possess high degrees and are part of many research projects, publishing their findings in journals and publications worldwide. They are polite and supportive of the students and help them achieve their academic goals.

Students have repeatedly praised their professors on various online forums. They have said that they can approach any professors with their educational or career doubts, and they will surely get help from the professors. In addition, the faculty members devise innovative methods to teach the students, making the lectures riveting.

Heritage & Modern Blended Infrastructure

The most distinct feature of Wilson College is its colonial building. Its heritage building lends a unique environment of past nostalgia. Yet it also gives a sense of its bright future. The college has all the infrastructural facilities required for the students to achieve a smooth academic life. The classrooms are spacious and well-ventilated and seat a large number of students comfortably.

There is a requisite number of labs present on the campus that equally cater to every student. The students also can handle the instruments inside the laboratory as they are adequately equipped. Furthermore, the labs are well-maintained and organised. There are no reports of frequent breakdowns for the same. 

The central library in the college hosts an impressive collection of books. It also includes various journals, research papers, magazines, newspapers, etc. The library, like all the other classrooms, is housed inside the heritage building. Many of the furniture is made of old wooden pieces from a century back. Such things make a unique environment in the library. While most facilities are remarkable, this cannot be said for sports.

The campus is located in a crowded area and needs more space to develop sports facilities. Hence, students can only enjoy a handful of them. There is a canteen inside the college which serves a variety of food. However, students have often said on online platforms that they are not satisfied with the quality of food served in the canteen. Apart from this, the college also houses a gymkhana. A well-rounded security system inside the college premises makes it safe and secure for everyone.

Comfortable Hostel Facilities

Wilson College provides hostel facilities for both boys and girls. The rooms are available on a triple sharing basis and have all the required amenities such as electricity, bed, mattresses, table, chair, etc. A dedicated mess facility also serves delicious food to the students in the hostel. According to the students, hostel fees are relatively high as it is located in one of Mumbai’s upscale areas.

Many events and recreational activities are held in the hostel to entertain the students. Some events are movie nights, talent evenings, alum visits, etc. The hostels have a robust security system that makes the premises safe. The hostel has no strict rules and regulations, except a few basic ones to maintain decorum.

Decent Placement Record

Wilson College offers students a good placement opportunity. Many top recruiters visit the campus each year to hire students. Various sessions are held by the placement cell to upskill the students and increase their chances of employment.

The highest package offered was around INR 11-12 LPA, while the average package was INR 7-8 LPA. The management actively tries to hunt for companies to visit the campus for recruitment. While Wilson College fares better in placement records than many other private colleges, there is still room for improvement.

Eventful Campus Life

Life at Wilson College is exciting and full of opportunities. Various cultural and extra-curricular activities are held all year round. Moreover, various field trips have been arranged. The student crowd is diverse as students from different communities across the country take admission.

There is also a healthy male-to-female ratio among students. Students are actively encouraged to enrol at various student-led clubs in the college and participate in the events organised by the clubs.

Rules and Dress Codes

Except for the 75% attendance rule, no strict rules and regulations are imposed on the students. Students do not also have to abide by any dress code or uniform system. They can dress as per their will. There is a healthy environment in terms of students expressing themselves. 

Is Wilson College Worth it?

Wilson College, which holds close to two centuries of heritage and legacy, provides endless opportunities to students. Students have often said that they are truly transformed once they graduate. Be it the exceptional academics su, supportive faculties, or good infrastructure, students experience a wholesome campus life. Moreover, various recreational activities are held for the students’ entertainment. The college offers a great campus experience with moderately nominal course fees.
