WB General Secretary Acknowledge PM’s Research Fellowship and Dip in School Girls Dropout Rates
The general secretary of West Bengal, Smt. Locket Chatterjee, credits the Prime Minister for transforming the education landscape by introducing NEP, Research Fellowship.
Smt. Locket Chatterjee, the General Secretary of West Bengal, acknowledges Prime Minister Narendra Modi for introducing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and Prime Minister's Research Fellowship for students pursuing research. According to Smt Locket Chatterjee, Introduction of NEP 2020, the dip in dropouts of school girls and PM's Research Fellowship support are a testament to transformation in the education landscape.
Furthermore, she added that the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is built on pillars of access, equality, affordability and accountability, which includes education in Indian languages, value-based learning and vocational learning, among other features.
The Government of India launched the Prime Minister Research Fellowship Scheme to improve the quality of research conducted in various higher educational institutes across the country by providing research scholars with financial assistance. The Prime Minister Research Fellowship Scheme was introduced in 2018-19. Research scholars from various institutes, such as Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Indian Institute of Science (IISc), IISER, IITs, etc., can participate in pursuing the PM research fellowship.

School Girls Dropout Rates
According to a survey presented by Smt. Locket Chatterjee, the higher gross enrollment ratio for girls at the Higher Secondary level rise from 39.38 in 2012-13 to 58.23 in 2021-22. Furthermore, the number of schools with available electricity rose to 89.3% in 2021-22 from 54.06% in 2012-2013. Finally, the dropout rates of school girls dipped from 17.03% in 2018-19 to 13.78% in 2021-22.
Another report from 2020-21 illustrated that school girls' dropout rates have decreased to 1.9% from 2.6% in 2019-20. Dropout rate refers to the percentage of students leaving school/studies mid-way due to various personal reasons. Multiple reports have presented early marriage as the most significant reason for dropout among school girls.
