If you are in SRM then there's really nothing to worry about placements. If you are performing well, there are a hell lot of companies dying to hire you but if you aren't performing well then I am sorry to say that not even the prestigious IITs can help. There are various IT companies that offer job placements like Wipro, Hyundai etc to name a few. Moreover, it depends upon the branch as well. As for average package considering On-campus placements, it can be anything in the range of 4l.pa. to 12l.pa. again it depends on how you perform.
Hostels are just okay for first years like triple sharing @100k p.a. Form second year onwards you can choose according to your needs or better you can stay outside the campus say in a flat or as a PG @70k to 80k p.a. The mess is terrible in every hostel of the country. Fingers crossed. Quality of classrooms is of genuine order. Labs are fine also. The library is a force. The dining hall is large and well maintained. Wi-fi oscillates between nice and pathetic. Overall infrastructure of the college is noteworthy. Infrastructure is the best thing about SRM. As a matter of fact, the auditorium known as T.P. Ganesan Auditorium happens to be among the top 5 largest auditoriums in Asia and a more interesting thing is that the auditorium stands without a single pillar. There are no pillars standing whatsoever.
The basic eligibility criteria to join SRMIST is you must have at least scored 65% aggregate in PCM in your 12th class. Secondly, you have to write the entrance exam conducted by SRM known as SRMJEEE. The cutoff marks cannot be predicted. However, if you get the counselling call letter and your rank falls in top 50%ile of the total students called then there are healthy chances that you'll get any desired branch.
Class timings for first years is a nightmare. Attending classes whole day that you are least interested in is indeed really painful. I mean who on this earth would be wanting to rush to college just to study same chemistry, biology and physics. After the first year, you feel a bit relieved. Teachers in the first year are terrible, when I say terrible I mean it. They don't even have proper communication skills, they speak pathetic English. However, there are few who stand out and some who overpower the communication skills with their in-depth knowledge. Overall experience is okay in the first year.
Now, this is the point where SRM is a disappointment. They charge a very hefty amount. My suggestion, if you can get a college on similar lines as that if SRM or of a slightly low reputation go for it. There's no point paying Lacs extra for literally nothing.
Clubs and student societies in SRM are in large numbers. Aaruush, Milan, Shuru are some of the top fests in SRM or even in the country.
