He rose to fame because he became a grandmaster and the former World Chess Champion, a big deal in the sporting world. Vishy became the first person from India to become a grandmaster in the year 1988. He held the title 'FIDE World Chess Championship' from 2000 to 2002; he became the first Asian to win this title, making him very famous.
