The Indian Maritime University was previously known as the National Maritime Academy campus was established in the year 1985 and later renamed in the year 2007 to National Maritime Academy. It is located on a 20-acre beachfront property on the outskirts of Chennai, a bustling cosmopolitan city. The extensive campus houses the academic block and other facilities.

The college offers various Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Doctoral Programs to those students who want to pursue their degree in the Marine field. The University provides technical assistance from UNDP/ UNCTAD to offer courses of reputable standards.

The college is offering high-quality education degree, diploma, and certification programs in Marine Sciences.  According to the ICRA’s grading system, ICRA has given grade 1 to the Chennai campus. Indian Maritime University Admission to various courses will be done through the All India Online Common Entrance Test. Moreover, IMU also offers Ph.D. and MS research programs, as well.

The headquarters of the Indian Maritime University is located at Chennai with the new building being built at 300 acres of vast land which is present between East Coast Road and Old Mahabalipuram Road.

IMU Courses:

The Indian Maritime University courses offered to the students for covering disciplines such as Management, Engineering, Science, and also Doctoral.

Engineering: 

The Courses offered under Engineering are Diploma, B.Tech, M.Tech, and Post Graduate Diploma. The applicants for the marine program must clear the physical fitness test which is vital for admission and only unmarried candidates are eligible for these programs. 

Management:

The Programmes offered by the university under management discipline are MBA in Port and Shipping Management and International Transportation and Logistics Management. The students are trained to solve complex management related problems as they get in-depth knowledge of shipping and transport. Students also will get to know the responsibilities, labor conditions, safety, security, and protection of the environment and also hold a strong trait in leadership qualities, social skills and eventually build a strong research-oriented mind.

Indian Maritime University Training and Placements:

Indian Maritime University has undertaken to host Training programs and industry interactions. Training programs are under two divisions i.e., Port and Marine. The Marine Division conducts these programs for merchant navy personnel who work on both sides of the deck and engineering. Indian Maritime University Placement is provided to the students after completion of the course. Industrial Visits and Summer Internships are organized by the University to enrich students with hands-on experience and also to help them understand how the industries work in real-time.

• Port Division courses include training for short-term, seminars, workshops, certifications, and induction courses.
• Summer Internships are organized by various companies namely: Agility, Airlift, BETA, CAT Logistics, Centuryply, Chemoil Adani, CMA CGM, CMH Logistics, APL Logistics, Honda, TVS, SFO Technologies, and so on.

Indian Maritime University Fee Structure:

The Indian Maritime University Fee varies for all the courses offered by the university. Detailed information about the fee structure of the courses offered by the university are mentioned below:

• B.Tech Courses and B.Sc Courses amounted to INR 2,25,000 for an academic year.
• BBA is charged at INR 1,00,000 for the academic year for non-residential candidates.
• M.Tech Courses are offered at INR 2,25,000 for the academic year.
• MBA Programmes are priced at INR 2,00,000 per year for non-residential.
• M.Sc Courses Cost for the Academic year sums up to INR 1,25,000.
• PGDME Course offered at INR 3,50,000 to the students for the academic year.
• M.S by Research is at INR 1,75,000.

IMU Infrastructure Facilities:

The Indian Maritime University Infrastructure is state-of-the-art, consisting of 23 Classrooms in which eleven is air-conditioned and equipped with Audio-Visual aid to create effective communication. Simulators are present which are capable to generate images of the different types of ships and port approaches in diverse operational and climatic conditions. Engine Simulators are also present to help engine room personnel to handle faults and emergencies by creating them.

• Audio Visual Division for creating video film to make the training and marketing more effective, it has an archive of 600 titles on DVDs which consists of operations relating to marine and port.
• Maritime Library is one of the best libraries within the country consisting of 8,000 books, journals, periodicals and magazines in the maritime sector to amplify the academic studies of the students.
• Reputed professionals journals and periodicals have been subscribed by the library.
• Students get practical training in the machine shop and workshops for plumbing, electrical, pneumatic, fitting, hydraulics and so on.
• Labs for chemistry, physics and navigation are available for training students.
• Computer labs have good internet connectivity.
• Fitness centres, Playground, Swimming pool are present in the campus.
• Digital library and uninterrupted Wi-Fi facilities are available for utility by the students.

IMU Eligibility Criteria:

Indian Maritime University Eligibility Criteria varies for the different courses being offered. The aspirants seeking admissions must be able to fulfill the criteria of eligibility specifically for the courses they are interested in.

IMU Admissions:

Candidates can apply for Indian Maritime University by visiting the university's official website. Candidates have to download the application form. The Admission Process for all candidates will be based on the Common Entrance Test. Indian Maritime University Scholarship is awarded to students to help them overcome financial constraints relating to academics.

• The Indian Maritime University admission is done on the basis of the entrance exam score
• Candidates need to pay an application fee of Rs 1000 for general category students; while the fee is Rs. 700 for SC/ ST category students.
• Along with the application form, the candidates need to enclose their date of birth proof, 12th mark sheet, caste certificate for reserved category, and all other relevant documents have to be sent to the University.

IMU Hostel Details:

 Hostel facilities are provided to the students of Indian Maritime University which accommodates 250 residents. It also consists of other facilities such as:
