Periyar University grading system 2023 follows the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) pattern from 2008-09 onwards. Periyar University offers courses in 27 departments at various levels under the CBCS pattern.
An academic year consists of two semesters - Odd semester (1 & 2) and Even semester (2 & 4). At the end of each semester, there shall be examinations, and students will be evaluated based on the Periyar University grading system.

What is Periyar University Grading System 2023?
Periyar University grading system 2023 is based on the CBCS pattern. Students appearing for end semester exams will be evaluated in terms of the percentage of marks and associated grade points. The minimum passing percentage for end semester exams is 50% (i.e., 38 marks out of 75) and 50% in the aggregate (including CIA and University examination marks). Further, students must have 75% attendance to appear for the end semester examinations.

What is the Minimum Passing Percentage at Periyar University?
Students are evaluated through internal assessment and end semester examination. Though, in internal assessment, there is no minimum passing percentage. However, in end semester examinations, students must score 50% minimum marks (i.e., 38 out of 75) to be promoted to the next semester.
What is the Minimum Attendance Requirement to Appear for Examination?
Students must attend all semester classes regularly to be eligible for appearing for the end semester examinations. The minimum attendance requirement is 75%. Students with attendance between 65% and 74% shall apply for condonation in the prescribed form along with the prescribed fee to appear for the examinations. Further, students with attendance between 50% and 64% will have to apply for condonation in the prescribed form and prescribed fee along with the medical certificate to write the examination; however, they can only appear for examinations in the next semester. Furthermore, students with attendance below 50% will not be allowed to appear for the examinations.
