The University College of Medical Sciences was founded in 1971 by efforts of the Health Minister of Delhi. The Health Ministry proposed to supply medical education to each student who qualified. Even with the presence of two medical colleges in Delhi, MAMC and LHMC, many students were denied the chance to review medicine.

In 1971, classes for the new college started within the makeshift Department of Chemistry on the North Campus of University of Delhi. The scholars had their clinical postings for practicals at the Safdarjung Hospital for 125 students. Additional 50 students were sent to Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College, at Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. Shortly afterwards, UCMS moved to Safdarjung Hospital in South Delhi. In 1986, UCMS moved to its present location at Dilshad Garden and have become related to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.

On 5 April 2006, the Human Resources Development Minister of India, Arjun Singh, announced that the govt intended to introduce reservations for Other Backward Class at 27% in central institutions, including IITs, IIMs, NITs, AIIMS, Maharaja Agrasen Medical College, Agroha, UCMS, Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research. Students at UCMS, and therefore the other three Delhi medical schools, who were concerned about the reservation system and thought of it a political gimmick, started a protest forum called Youth For Equality

The college offers medical & paramedical courses and caters to the health care needs for the East Delhi community and surrounding border areas. The institute may be a network centre for the National Brain Research Centre and is the nodal centre for AIDS and Safdarjung Hospitals. it's one among the three public trauma centres in Delhi, additionally to Susruta Trauma Centre and Jai Prakash Narayana Trauma Centre at AIIMS, and is fully equipped with a burns ward.[citation needed]

UCMS was the primary Indian medical college to start out a Medical Humanities Group and it organized the primary 'Theatre of the Oppressed' workshop for medical students in India in 2011.

• Army College of life science is situated in New Delhi and was established in 2008. ACMS is affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), Delhi, and is approved by Medical Council of India (MCI).
• ACMS offers five and a half years course in Bachelor of drugs and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) that has a 1-year internship.
• Candidates can submit the appliance form in online mode only.
• For the MBBS course, admissions are going to be offered for the candidates who have passed the upper secondary examination.
• Admission to the present program is thru NEET.
• The counselling process for qualifying candidates is completed by GGSIPU.

• Applicants belonging to SC/ ST categories are entitled to the relaxation of 10% in the qualifying examination.
• Minimum age to apply for admissions is 17 years as by December 31, whereas the maximum is 35 years.

• Visit the official website of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU).
• Click on “Apply Online” tab.
• Add the mandatory details (personal and educational qualification).
• Upload the scanned copies of the following documents:
• Signature
• Photograph
• Thumb impression
• Click on “I Agree” checkbox in the declaration form and click on submit option.
• A Login ID and Password will be generated along with the preview of details.
• Proceed to fill the course application details.
• Submit your application and click on proceed to pay. The Application fee for the form is INR 1000/-.
• The application fee can be submitted through Credit/ Debit cards or Net Banking.
• Candidates will be redirected to the next page with a preview of all the details filled by the candidate.
• Take the print out of the duly filled in application form.
