Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bihar University was established in the year 1960, popularly known as B R Ambedkar Bihar University located in the North Prime of Bihar State in the city of Mirzapur. The distance education in this university was started from the year 1995 and has succeeded in its mission by performing well in all the examination. On 2nd March 1997, the senate of this university approved the scheme of the Academic Council to create a centre for Distance Education in its meeting.

The campus is located inside the university, started with just a plinth area of 378 sq. meter with the mathematics department now it holds over a plinth area of 1632 sq. meters inside the campus along with two buildings allotted to Directorate of Distance Education. The institution has also applied for permission/recognition from the National Council for Teacher Education.

DDEBRABU admissions can be made online and also inside the campus. For online admission, process candidates have to wait till the end of the final semester of the present batch as the portal opens only at the end of the semester and not before that. For offline candidates have to be present in the admission department during the admissions and have to submit all the documents and marks sheets.
