Goa Medical College , one of the oldest medical colleges in Asia, is located in Goa, India. It is affiliated with Goa University Medical education in Goa began in 1691 with the establishment of a Medicine Class of Nova Goa. In 1801, the Portuguese crown set up the Medicine and Surgery Class which lasted until 1815. On 5 November 1842, the "Medical-Surgical School of Goa" was officially founded and operated until 1851 when other medical schools were closed. The college produced over 1,300 doctors. After India's annexation of Goa in 1961 the college came under the University of Bombay and later transitioned to Goa University in 1986, changing its name to, Medical College.
