There are minority scholarships for Muslim students. Since I do not fall into any of these categories, I cannot get scholarships from the government.
About 20-25 students get one of these scholarships.
Loans are generally not needed as the fees are less.
Entrance Exams & Admissions :
To get an admission in Government College of Engineering & Textile Technology one has to take the WBJEE exam after passing class 12th.
Cut-off ranks for CSE and IT departments vary from 8000 to 10000 and for Textile Technology and Apparel Production Management departments the ranks vary from 12,000 to 15,000.
Placements & Internships :
Internships are generally done after the completion of 6th-semester exams at Government College of Engineering & Textile Technology. I have just completed my 5th semester. So, I will be doing my internship after another 5-6 months.
Many Textile companies come to our campus to recruit students, few of them being Raymond, Vardhman Textiles, Welspun, Reliance Textiles and few IT companies like Tech Mahindra and TCS.
The average salary is around Rs. 2.5 lakhs per annum.
There is a good network of alumni in our college. Every year we organize a Reunion in which many of the passed out students visit the campus.
Academics & Faculty :
The quality of teaching is very good and faculty is always available to look into our problems at Government College of Engineering & Textile Technology.
Most of the teachers of Textile Technology and Apparel Production Management have studied in this college itself and hence they are well aware of the syllabus which helps them to teach well.
Classes are regularly held for Textile Technology and Apparel Production Management students but it is not so for CSE and IT students.
Overall, we have a great experience in college.
College Infrastructure & Hostel Facilities :
There are 1 Boys' Hostel and 1 Girls' Hostel which is still under construction at Government College of Engineering & Textile Technology.
Students who stay far away from the college are given accommodation in the hostel. The hostel is not in good condition.
The hostel is affordable and the mess fee is Rs. 1,500 per month. The food offered in the hostel is just good.
There are options for students to stay in PGs if they want to.
Since it is a very old college, the classrooms are very big and have high ceilings.
The labs are well equipped with all the necessary materials and machines but not all of them are in working condition.
Clubs & Associations :
There are only few student societies and clubs in Government College of Engineering & Textile Technology.
There is only one Students' Union which organizes all the activities in the college.
The college hosts an annual fest in which a musical band is invited to entertain the students.
Sports activities, Teachers' day celebrations, and farewell parties are some other activities organized by the Students' Union.
