Government Medical College/Rajindra Hospital [GMCP] was established in 1953 by Maharaja Yadvinder Singh. It was the first Medical College in Patiala and is affiliated with Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot. The college is approved by the Medical Council of India [MCI]. The admissions are provided in the field of MBBS, M.Sc., B.Sc., Nursing, and Pharmacy.
GMC Patiala campus is equipped with a hostel,1000+ beds for people, labs, and classrooms. The college also works a State T.B. Training and Demonstration Centre for the State of Punjab and U.T. The current intake of the college is 225 students from MBBS and 144 Postgraduates.

GMC Patiala is one of the oldest institutions recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI). The college is also approved by UGC. Initially, GMC Patiala had an intake of 50 students for MBBS, but it currently has a strength of 225 students for MBBS. In addition, the college offers courses in medical sciences, nursing, pharmacy, and paramedical sciences. The college also has a dental college, a nursing college, a hospital, and a T.B Hospital as a part of its infrastructure.
GMC Patiala offers MBBS, internship and PG specialization, and super specialization courses. The super specialization is offered in Cardiology. The campus is equipped with the latest ICU, ICCU, laboratory, and classroom facilities. The IT cell and library ensure that students have access to the latest resources related to the medical field. The institute currently has an intake of 225 M.B.B.S., 144 Post graduates, and 6 MSc.(Biochemistry, Anatomy) 50 Bsc. Nursing, 30 Post Basic Nursing, 10 BSc. Medical (Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry), 40 D.M.L.T, 60 D-Pharmacy, 12 Radiographer Diploma students. College provides many types of research for findings and solutions to new diseases
