The main vision of ILI is promoting and conducting legal research across India.Hon'ble Chief Justice of India is the ex-officio President of the Institute. The Union Minister of Law & Justice is its Ex-officio Vice-President. The Attorney General for India, some Judges of the Supreme Courts and High Courts, Solicitor General of India, Chairman, Law Commission and University Grant Commission and other prominent lawyers and law professors etc. are the members of the Governing Council.The Indian Law Institute has been granted Deemed University Status in 2004.
