Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology (IGIT), Dhenkanall was established in the year 1982. The college was managed directly by the Govt. of Odisha in the name of Odisha College of Engineering (OCE). And the Modern Polytechnic (MPT) was offering Diploma Courses in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Mining Survey Engineering. OCE and MPT were merged in the year 1987 and was renamed as Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology.
All B. Tech, B.Arch, MCA, MSc. Ph. D & M. Tech Courses are affiliated to Biju Patnaik University of Technology, Rourkela and All Diploma Courses to are affiliated to State Council for Technical Education & Vocational Training, Odisha, Bhubaneswar.
Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology (IGIT) Admissions to various courses of the University will be based on criteria decided by the Academic Council of the University. Every year is divided into two Semesters one is Autumn Semester (July to December) and another is Spring Semester (January to June). Each semester has 15 to 18 teaching weeks with a minimum of 90 teaching days excluding the period of examination.
