“From purposely failing students to make money through supplementary exam fees to teaching outdated content, Kurukshetra University is not an ideal place for those who aspire to have a successful career.”
According to the past years’ students, studying at Kurukshetra University was close to a nightmare, with irresponsible staff members, lack of course prospects and improper academic management. Although the university has a lush, green campus, the syllabus for the majority of the courses is outdated, and students have little to no practical learning experience. Students who aspire to have a successful career are advised not to join KUK as it would be a waste of time and skills.
The university is mainly focused on making money and creating instances to yield different types of fines and fees from the students through backlog exams. There are several cases where even those students who are good at academics have failed exams in different subjects. Yet, a few students have mentioned that writing anything and everything in the papers has helped them pass the exams.
Most of the staff members are appointed to the university through their political relations, without any particular eligibilities and qualifications. They are disrespectful and unapproachable when it comes to clarifying the students’ queries.

In spite of the fact that Kurukshetra University offers various undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral degree programs in different disciplines, only a few of these courses are up to the mark. Past years’ students who completed B.Tech programs with different specialisations have faced many issues regarding their curriculum, question papers with syllabus questions, unfair marking system and unreasonable delays in result declarations. Hence, it is better that aspirants planning to pursue a career in the field of Engineering and Technology join the other universities and institutes in the country to have a fruitful academic experience.
Nevertheless, the Bachelors of Education (B.Ed) course is one of the better programs offered by KUK, in comparison to the other programs. However, even students who studied this course have complaints about various issues, and therefore, they recommend that the aspirants try for admission to other government and private universities.
The university also offers Master of Business Administration (MBA) programs, but again, the specialisations are for namesake as in most cases, the relevant subjects are not taught for these programs.
In any case, the main fields of study at Kurukshetra University are listed below:
The university also offers Distance Learning programs, which have a better impression on the students than the regular courses.
The quality of the faculty members varies from one department to another. The university has educated and experienced faculty members for certain domains, like Engineering, Commerce, etc. Still, most teachers are laid back and do not make extra efforts to make the classes interesting for their students. For instance, the syllabus for the majority of the courses is not updated to include the new developments in the industry, which in turn affects the career of the students.
Although the university has good professors, they are loaded with administrative jobs, which makes it difficult for them to finish their portions and rush through the syllabus with no time to discuss the important topics in detail.
The university management is least bothered about giving its students a beneficial learning experience as their main aim is to make the students fail in exams so that they can generate supplementary exam fees from the students. The number of students who fail semester exams is unbelievable, as even the toppers in the previous exams have backlogs.
There have been instances where the marking scheme is based on the roll number of the students. In other words, the students with odd roll numbers were made to fail, and those with even numbers passed for certain exams. As the result is declared after 6 months or even 1 year, students are unable to apply for re-evaluation, which leaves them no choice but to re-appear for those papers.
The only good factor that makes studying at the university money’s worth is its large infrastructure, which includes all the necessary facilities for the different departments. Spread over a large area of land, the university campus consists of a massive library, sports facilities, hostels, laboratories and other amenities.
Despite the area and the money made by the management, most of the facilities are not maintained properly. The classrooms are underwhelming, with no latest features to conduct interactive classes. The laboratories for the Engineering courses do not have the necessary types of equipment, especially for the Mechanical Engineering students, which makes their practical learning less productive.
As for the hostels, the general cleanliness is maintained, but only vegetarian food is served with basic North-Indian dishes, which include over-sweetened milk for breakfast and a special diet for Wednesdays, which is unsatisfactory for most of the students. The dinner is the best meal served at the hostel. Students are allowed to bring their own condiments if necessary. Overall, the meals are repetitive and lack diversity.
As Kurukshetra University is one of the biggest and oldest universities in North India, students from different parts of the country are part of the crowd, making it very diverse in terms of languages and cultures. Students from different backgrounds are part of the university.
Certain departments, like that for Law and Management courses, have a uniform, which is mainly formal attire. Apart from that, students are expected to maintain a decent dress code and not wear casual clothes.
Due to the university’s reputation for revenue generation through supplementary examination fees, students have to spend most of their time studying for exams. However, there are several clubs and committees students can be part of to pursue their interests and talents. The major event that takes place at the university is the regional cultural fest, which provides students from other states a chance to witness the Haryanvi culture.
Apart from the cultural events, students can also utilise the sports facilities, especially the university stadium, which can be used for jogging or running. The university has a beautiful campus with several features that can be explored by the students during their free time.
The location of the university is also quite attractive, with several places to visit during the weekends. As different types of people are part of the university, it is easy for the aspirants to make friends and form groups. These friendships help the students to get through difficult academics.
Albeit the fact that the university has a placement cell, the career prospects after graduation are null. Most students find it difficult to get a job after completing their course mainly because of their backlogs and the absence of active placement drives organised by the university. The students are not trained for the current scenario as the curriculum is outdated.
Only those who complete MBA and B.Tech programs from the university have some career opportunities, that too from national organisations. Multi-national companies are not even part of the placement drives, giving the students limited options.
The overall competitiveness of graduates also affects their job prospects due to the large number of students. According to the placement records, the highest salary package offered to the students was at INR 5 LPA, and the average package was at INR 3 LPA.
It can be concluded that Kurukshetra University is not an ideal place for students who dream of having a successful career. With its money-consuming, unfair academic environment, the students are put through difficult times. The past students of the university advise the aspirants to try their best to get admission to better universities. The pros and c
