Like any other government medical college, LTMMC admits students in two quotas- State (Maharashtra) quota-85% and All India quota (AIQ)- 15%.
All applicants need to be of Indian Nationality and those applying through state quota must either hold a Maharashtrian domicile or should have passed their X and XII from Maharashtra.
A student can apply for admission only after they have been allotted the college from their preference list during counselling. I belong to the AIQ, and was allotted the college in the third round of online counselling after clearing the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). The counselling for State Quota applicants is offline. In general category, a national rank of around 2000 is required for AIQ, and a state rank of around 600 for State quota may be required for admission (but this is subject to yearly variation).
Fees & Scholarships :
The course fee in Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College, [LTMMC] Mumbai for the general category is Rs 26000 per semester currently. This includes everything apart from the hostel fee.
An annual scholarship from TATA for 15 students across the college based on academic and extracurricular merit and means is the most sought-after scholarship. Others are available for freshers and other students that can be easily inquired about during admission.
Academics & Faculty :
The class timings in Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College, [LTMMC] Mumbai are from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm on weekdays and until 12.30 pm on Saturday. This includes four lectures and a practical session on an average. A student typically gives 4 sets of exams in the year.
Apart from PowerPoint presentation and chalk and board style teaching, interactive sessions like demonstrations, tutorials and seminars are held. Students are encouraged and screened to participate in Intercollegiate and State level quizzes. Academically, the first year is more like school where students have spoon-fed all the lessons. As the year's pass, self-study becomes more and more integral, while professors encourage clinical learning. All the professors and lecturers are post-graduates in their field and experienced in dealing with students.
College Infrastructure & Hostel Facilities :
The hostel facility of the college is modest. Currently, the hostel is available from the 3rd-5th semester onwards.
Prior to this, students can choose to live in PGs or rented apartments that may cost them between Rs. 5,000-15,000 per month depending on the facilities and the no.of people sharing it. The hostel fees are Rs. 1,000 per semester.
There is no mess facility and the students typically opt for tiffin services that cost about Rs 50 - Rs 70 a meal.
The infrastructure of Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College, [LTMMC] Mumbai is constantly being bettered to meet the growing standard and demand of facilities. The college has open WiFi for students. Around half of the classrooms are air conditioned.
Clubs & Associations :
Apart from the months of examination, the college holds extra-curricular events throughout the year. The Students' Association is formed by students of the 5th semester and they are responsible for all these events.
The official college fest, Ashwamedh is a four-day festival with approximately 25 events that appeal to all the passions that one may have. Apart from this, the freshers are welcomed every year with a four-day cultural event called SLICE. Independence day, Dandiya Night, Ganesh Chaturthi, Kite festival are all celebrated on a large scale. Sports events occupy the first few months of the calendar year. The college also organises a three-day students' medical conference named TRINITY is February. This is one of the biggest students' medical conferences in India and sees participation and delegation of doctors and students from all over the country.
