B. J. Medical College was founded in the year 1946 on 23rd June to replace B. J. Medical School which was founded in 1871, with Shri. B.G. Kher the head of the Bombay Government, setting up the foundation stone. Construction of present B. J. Medical College building was started in 1948 and it was completed in 1950 The medical course of MBBS was affiliated to the University of Poona [Pune] in 1949. The main building of the medical college was inaugurated by Dr Radha Krishnan in 1952.

200 students were admitted for MBBS graduation and 143 for post-graduation for many years annually. Now there are 1700 students are on the campus with more than 2000 staff including 268 faculties. currently, courses of MBBS, MD, MS, Ph.D., Diplomas, MCh [CVTS], MSc, GNM, BSc Nursing, DMLT, PGDMCH, and PGDGM are offered here. BJMC has allocated 200 admissions to the MBBS course every year in the college. BJMC Pune Admissions are based on the past academic merit and score in qualifying examinations.

Here are some of the key highlights of the College:

The efforts to retain the good old values, while bringing in the new have resulted in our institution attaining a position of excellence, BJMC has been rated among the top ten medical colleges in India. BJMC has allocated committees like Under Graduation Admission Committees, Post Graduate Committee, UG Academic Committee, Central Library Committee.

The extent services in mental health, preventive medicine, human reproduction research, tribal research, through national agencies like ICMR, and international agencies like WHO and UNICEF got underway, with the initiation of large scale research projects the Institutional Ethics Committee was started. The college has given various social activists to society.

BJGMC Pune offers admission to inspiring medical candidates in various courses through the NEET exam. The seat allotment is completely based on the NEET merit list. The candidates must clear BJGMC NEET cut off to be eligible for NEET 2020 Counselling for admission to BJGMC Pune. The applicant securing a rank in the range of 450-900 will be eligible to get admission to the institute. The BJGMC Pune cut off depends on the following determining factors:

• For OBC, SBC, VJNT Cast Students, they are offered Scholarships by the social welfare Department Govt of Maharashtra. The income limit of parents is 1 lakhs & below Rs 6 Lakhs free ship
• For Schedule Tribes, they are offered Scholarship from the tribal department Govt of Maharashtra, Income limit of parents is Rs 2 Lakhs for Scholarship & there is no income limit for free ship.
• Ministry of Minority Development, Government of Maharashtra Income limit of parents is Rs. 6 Lakhs per year.
• Minority scholarship offered from Director of Higher Education Maharashtra State. The income limit Rs 2 Lakhs per year.
• SavitribaiPhule Scholarship for girls is offered from MUHS Nashik on merit basis & income limit of parents.
• Economically Backward Class students are offered freeship from Govt of Maharashtra for students who have settled in Maharashtra. The income limit of parents is Rs. 1 Lakh [for all categories]
• Teacher wards freeship is offered from ZillaParishadGovt of Maharashtra for the only Govt recognized aided school teachers/Non-teaching staff.
• Son of Ex-Servicemen, son of Serving soldier freeship is offered from Govt of Maharashtra.
• LokShahirAnnabhauSathe Scholarship offered from Pune Municipal Corporation those students residing in the Pune municipal area, only for first-year students only.
