Patna Women’s College Overview

Patna Women's College was established in the year 1940 by Bishop B.J. Sullivan S.J., Bishop of Patna, and Mother M. Josephine A.C. Superior General of the Apostolic Carmel. It was the first women's college in the area to cater to the educational needs of women in Bihar. Bishop Sullivan believed that the upliftment of Bihar lay in liberating its women by providing opportunities for higher education i.e., by empowering them.

The college has been accredited as a NAAC-A grade Institution and PWC courses include undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the field of Science, Arts, and Commerce. The College also provides various Certificate courses. It has been recognized by the University Grant Commission [UGC] as an Institution with Potential for Excellence. A Central Research Laboratory (CRL) has been established in the College with the financial support given by the UGC and the Government of Bihar.

UGC has conferred Autonomous status to Patna Women's College in January 2018 and it is the only college in the state to have taken the initiative of introducing the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) in the semester system.
