Rani Channamma University came was established in 2010. Before that Karnataka University KRCPG Centre of Karnataka University Dharwad was functioning at Belagavi. In 1994 Karnataka Pg center was shifted to the present campus of 172 acres of land located at Bhutramanahatti adjacent to the Pune-Bangalore national highway-4 at a distance of about 18 km from Belgaum city.

Rani Channamma University aims to provide the best quality education to produce skilled human power. This university promotes educational programs in various disciplines based on interaction with society and industry. RCU aims to review and design co-curricular activities to develop the overall personality of the students. Rani Channamma University has a library. Initially, the library had a collection of around 19385 books. At present, the library has a collection of more than 38774 books, 2000 back volumes of periodical, 368 theses. This library also provides 13 regional languaged daily newspapers.

This university has 13 staff quarters. RCU provides the broadband internet facilities of 2 Mbps on the campus.RCU also has a 24X7 electricity on the campus. This university has a conference and gymkhana hall. Rani Channamma University labs have a sufficient number of PCs for the benefits of the students.
