Sathish Chander Dhawan Government College was established in 1920. It was earlier known as Imperial College. Later it was changed to Govt. College, Ludhiana. The college provides a green environment with its lush green trees, flowers, and lawns. The college has a large number of outstanding faculty who are approachable and friendly.

The college offers great infrastructure facilities to its students like the library, auditorium, classrooms, hostel, etc.  It conducts various activities to engage the students like NSS, NCC, Cultural and Sports activities, etc.

It provides undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the fields of commerce, arts, and science. It provides both morning and evening classes. The candidates are provided admission for the evening classes only if the employment certificate is submitted. Only boys are enrolled for the B.A program. The college offers co-education in B.Sc and other postgraduate courses. The SCD Govt College admission is based on merit.

The candidates need to fill the application form online which is available on the college website www.scdgovtcollege.ac.in. for SCD Government College Admission. The candidates need to register and obtain a user name, password, and application ID. The relevant documents need to be uploaded by the candidate. The candidate can make payment online and take a print out of the application form. The government College Ludhiana cut off list for the counselling process will be published by the college.

The eligibility criterion of the BA, B.Com and B.C.A course is that the applicants seeking admission must have passed two year’s intermediate examination or a recognised plus two examination with aggregate of at least 40% aggregate marks. For SC/ST applicants, passing marks are sufficient for getting into the college. The applicants seeking admission belonging to SC/ST category need passing marks in plus two from recognised board or council to get admission in any of the courses mentioned above. In the case of admission to BCA course, the applicants seeking admission with Mathematics at the intermediate level will get the first preference. For admissions into the post graduate courses, the candidate should have done Graduation and have a bachelor\'s degree obtained through the 10+2+3 system or an equivalent qualification of any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India. Also, the fees for all the courses vary.

• The applicants seeking admission can apply by filling the application form that is available from the college office on payment of Rs. 200/- for UG courses and Rs. 300/- for PG courses
