In 1984, a group of like-minded visionaries led by Shri R.L. Jalappa, a prominent advocate of the cooperative movement in Karnataka, established the Sri Devaraj Urs Educational Trust for Backward Classes, focusing on medical education and social service. The trust was founded in 1986 at Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College, located in Tamaka, Kolar. The trust aimed to make a meaningful contribution to medical education, research, and healthcare services for rural populations. The college is situated in Tamaka village, 5 km from Kolar Town, Karnataka, and is easily accessible by National Highway No. 75. Kolar is well-connected by road, rail, and air, with Bengaluru just 75 km away, and the nearest railway station, Bangarpet, 15 km from Kolar. Inspired by this vision, the trust applied for Deemed University status for the college, which was renamed Sri Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher Education and Research. In April 2007, the University Grants Commission (UGC) conducted an inspection of the college’s infrastructure and teaching facilities, and upon being satisfied, recommended to the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, to grant Deemed University status. On May 25, 2007, the MHRD conferred the Deemed University status on the college. The trust has continually pursued excellence in education and healthcare services, achieving accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 2006, as well as ISO 9001:2000 certification for the medical college. The hospital’s laboratory services also received accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL), and in 2022, the R.L. Jalappa Hospital & Research Center obtained accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals (NABH). Currently, the Deemed University includes the medical college, and plans are underway to incorporate the R.L. Jalappa Institute of Technology in Kodigehally, Doddaballapura (off-campus), and the Sri Devaraj Urs College of Nursing in Kolar (on-campus). Since its establishment in 2007, the university has expanded its academic and administrative departments to support its growth and functioning.

Undergraduate

The admission process for the Undergraduate (MBBS) program at Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College, a constituent institution of Sri Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher Education and Research, will be overseen by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. • Passed 10 + 2 / PUC / Equivalent examination with Biology, Chemistry, Physics and English.
• Should be NEET – 2024 Qualified

• NRI $ 45,200 (USD) Per Annum

Postgraduate

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, will manage the admission process for the Undergraduate (MBBS) program at Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College, which is a constituent institution of Sri Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher Education and Research. Stipend Paid for PG

• 1st Year : Rs: 45,000/- Per Month
• 2nd Year : Rs: 50,000/- Per Month
• 3rd Year : Rs: 55,000/- Per Month

Ph.D. Program Faculty Of Medicine

Eligibility:

A Master of Science in a relevant discipline from the Faculty of Medicine, with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks, from a recognized university on a full-time basis.

Scholarships

• The university provides scholarships to meritorious candidates.
• Every year, the academy grants 30 scholarships to undergraduate (MBBS) students.
• The value of each scholarship is Rs. 25,000 per year.
• 15 scholarships are awarded to students from the General Merit (GM) category, in honor of Late Sri Ramakrishna Hegde, former Chief Minister of Karnataka.
• 15 scholarships are awarded to students from the OBC category, in memory of Late Sri Devaraj Urs, former Chief Minister of Karnataka.

Sri Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher Education & Research, Kolar, is ranked between 150-200 out of 200 colleges in India according to the NIRF 2024 ranking, compared to its ranking of 151 out of 200 colleges in India in 2023.
