Infrastructure Facilities at Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering:

Transport:

  • When the College started functioning in the new campus at Pennalur in 1991, the management decided to provide transportation between various parts of Chennai city and the College.
  • Initially, eight buses started operating between the college and the city. As the number of courses offered increased, the total strength of the college also increased and now 60 buses are operating from various parts of Chennai to the college.
  • Transport is also provided for sports, library, laboratory and late evening classes.
  • Buses are operated on Saturdays and Sundays for special classes, NCC, Sports, etc.
  • On special occasions, buses are utilised for industrial visits and social service activities.

Library:

  • Dr. A.C. Muthiah Central Library contains an expansive digital and physical collection that offers a diverse range of services and resources that includes books and journals covering all major fields of Science and Engineering.
  • The fully air-conditioned, Wi-Fi enabled three-storied building which is of 4,900.75 Sq.mt. (52,732.07 Sq.ft.) is a vital resource of learning, engagement and creativity not only in engineering but also beyond the domains of engineering.
  • The Library has a total number of 1,01,102 books (25,630 titles), 1248 journals (Online and Print), 9636 back volumes of journals and 2200 CDs.
  • Besides the Central Library, each department has a library that has a repository of materials related to the fields of specialization of the Department.
  • SVCE also has a Digital Library which is totally sponsored by the SVCE Alumni Association.
  • The library nurtures a book bank that has a huge collection of about 1782 books on engineering and sciences exclusively for deserving candidates.
  • In order to accommodate an ideal learning environment, the library offers completely well-appointed, silent study areas. Besides that, there are several halls, private sections, study-tables, a computer-assisted facility that cater to students’ needs and preferences.
  • The Library Committee is headed by the Principal. The committee also comprises of the Controller of Examinations, the Deans and the Heads of Departments, and Student Representatives. ‘The Gathering’ takes place every semester to discuss the functioning of the library.

Canteen:

  • The main canteen is situated on the ground floor and first floor adjacent to Class Room Block 2
  • While breakfast and variety of rice for lunch is served on the ground floor, full meals is served on the first floor.
  • The breakfast menu includes poori masala, idli, dosa, vada, Pongal and sambar and chutney as side dishes.
  • Prices are nominal, quality food is served, hygiene is maintained.
  • Evening snacks and bottled cold drinks are also served.

Entrepreneurship Development Cell:

  • An Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) was established in 2003 with the funding support from National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India for a period of five years.
  • On completion of 5years successfully in February 2008, EDC-SVCE was retained by SVCE Management and the entrepreneurial activities were continued under various schemes of state and central government on a project basis.
  • For the period May 2011 to May 2014, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) sanctioned grants to continue the entrepreneurial activities for the benefit of the student community and science and technology persons in this region.

Hostel and Mess:

  • Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering has a goal to provide a conducive and homely environment for the students to stay, study and imbibe the art of living among their own peers in a harmonious manner.
  • First Gents Hostel Block was inaugurated in the year 1998 exclusively for marine engineering students, as marine engineering UG course is fully residential as per DG Shipping norms. Subsequently, other blocks were build
  • Hostel rooms are provided with good ventilation and lighting essential furniture.
  • Basic amenities like bathrooms and toilets are constructed on each floor of hostel blocks.
  • Hot water is supplied through a geyser or solar heater arrangement.
  • Emergency Generator supplies are also provided in case of power failures.
  • There are two standby diesel generated sets in the main substation, which supplies power during long power interruptions.
  • Separate mess halls are provided for gents as well as ladies. Each mess hall is provided with a well equipped and highly mechanized kitchen.
  • The menu, strictly pure vegetarian, is prepared by students and revised once in a semester and food served is predominantly South Indian.
  •  Each hostel block has a common room used for recreation purposes. Daily newspaper and magazine are bought and kept here. Satellite cable television facility is also available. Indoor games such as caroms and chess are provided.
  • Wi-Fi Facility is available for students residing in the hostels
  • Residents of the hostel are encouraged to take part in sports as excellent outdoor and indoor game facilities are provided in campus.
  • All the blocks are fenced. 24*7 security is provided to the college and hostel
  • A dispensary with two beds, a doctor and a trained nurse are available on the campus. The nurse lives on the campus for round the clock medical care.
  • Day-to-day affairs of the hostels are managed by the Warden supported by the office staff.

College Infrastructure & Hostel Facilities : There is one girl's hostel, and the hostel fee is INR 50,000, and the food in college is good. The overall infrastructure is very nice.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : I got 94% in 12 th standard and 195.5 as the cutoff mark. I
