Tamil Nadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University was established by the Government of Tamil Nadu by an Act of State Legislature [Act No.43 of 1997]. Tamil Nadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University offers legal education on-campus as well as through 8 of their affiliated colleges in Tamil Nadu located at Chennai, Coimbatore, Vellore, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Salem, Trichy, and Chengalpattu. Admission in Tamil Nadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University can be done both online and offline. Both national, as well as international students, can take admission in the University. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and doctoral programs.

It is named after the person who framed the Indian Constitution, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. It was inaugurated on 20th September 1997, and the University started on 3rd October 1997. The main objective of Tamil Nadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University is to circulate, research, learn and gain more knowledge in the field of law. Its main objective is to uplift the standard of legal education in the state of Tamil Nadu. TNDALU is recognized by the BCI (Bar Council of India) and UGC (University Grants Commission). It is a member of the AIU (Association of Indian Universities), Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi, and Association of Common Wealth Universities, U.K. The fact that it is the first full-fledged law university in the country makes it one of its kind. 

The University has established The School of Excellence since 2002 at its campus which offers 3 to 5 years of integrated undergraduate courses in Law. TNDALU has a Postgraduate and Research Centre offering 8 different specializations in Master of Law Degree Course, doctoral programs and researching in most diverse areas of law. There is a Distance Education unit within the campus where they offer a few evening college programs for various postgraduate diploma courses.

The School of Excellence in Law (SOEL) offers Viz. B. A. B. L. (Hons) whose main objective is to lay more stress on making law students professionally competent. The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University introduced a center SIIC (student - industry interface) which is to open more avenues for the students in the legal sphere. Reputed banks and leading law firms recruit students from the University every year. There are internship programs in which a lot of students are hired by various law firms. They focus on creating better avenues other than professional practices or joining MNCs or different Corporate companies.

B.A.LL.B.[HONS.] DEGREE COURSE:

The Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar University offers B.A.LLB[Hons.] Degree course which is for five years. Each year is divided into 2 semesters. Each semester has 90 working days. Once you have successfully completed the course, the degree will be awarded to you. The number of intakes is 180 including NRIs. No spilt degrees will be issued between the 5-year integrated course. 

B.COM.LL.B. [HONS.] DEGREE COURSE:

In the academic year 2013-2014, TNDALU introduced a course B.Com.LL.B. [Hons.] Degree Course. It is a 5 years course. Each semester has 90 working days. Once you have successfully completed the course, the degree will be awarded to you. The number of intakes is 120 including NRIs. Out of the 120 seats, about 15% of seats are assigned to the NRIs. No spilt degrees will be issued between the 5-year integrated course.

B.B.A.LL.B. [HONS.] DEGREE COURSE:

The University introduced B.B.A.LL.B.[Hons.] Degree Course in the year 2015-2016. The course is for 5 years. Each semester has 90 working days. Once you have successfully completed the course, the degree will be awarded. The number of intakes is 120 including NRIs. No spilt degrees won’t be issued between the 5-year integrated course. According to G.O.Ms.No.418 Law (LS) Department, around 4% of the 120 seats are allotted to the Higher Secondary Courses (+2) Vocational Stream Candidates.15% of the total seats are reserved for NRI candidates. 

B.C.A.LL.B. [HONS.] DEGREE COURSE:

TNDALU introduced a degree course in the year 2015-2016, B.C.A.LL.B.[Hons.] Degree Course. Each semester has 90 working days. Once you have successfully completed the course, the degree will be awarded. It is a course for 5 years. The number of intakes is 120 including NRIs. No spilt degrees won’t be issued between the 5-year integrated course. 15% of the total seats have been assigned to NRI candidates. 

LL.B.[HONS.] DEGREE COURSE:

Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University offers L.B.[Hons] Degree Course which is a three years course. Each semester has 90 working days. Once you have successfully completed the course, the degree will be awarded. The number of intakes is 120 including NRIs.

LL.M. DEGREE COURSES:

The School of Excellence in Law of TNDALU offers Post-Graduate Courses. The courses are of two years LL.M. Degrees, which is under CBCS pattern. The students admitted in each branch of the LL.M. Degree Course is 20. The reservation is based on the State Reservation Policy. An academic year is divided into 2 semesters - odd semester: July to November and even semester: December to April. There is a continuous assessment system designed in the semester.  They provide LL.M. Degree in nine branches.

TNDALU Facilities:

Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University is well connected with roads and rails. The infrastructure of TNDALU is huge. It is far better than most government colleges and universities. The classrooms are air-conditioned. The campus is completely Wi-Fi enabled. A whole floor is dedicated to the computer lab. The library is as huge as 3 whole floors. It has each and every law book and also you can go through any legal website free of charge. There is a separate hostel for both boys and girls available within the campus. A few other facilities available on the campus are - auditorium, medical room, gym, cafeteria.

TNDALU Fees Structure:

The fee structure in Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar is very discrete. There's different fee structure for Indian Residents and NRI students. The fees once paid are non-refundable. For NRI students the cost of application is $200 for admission. You can pay the fees all at once. For an NRI candidate, the fee should be paid in dollar only. A one-time payment of Rs 500 should be made at the time of admission.

1. Is there any age limit to study law?

 - For the 3 years LLB[Hons] there's no age limit. But for the other courses offered by the University, the age limit is a maximum of 21 years. 

2. What are the courses provided by the University?

 - The University provides postgraduate and undergraduate courses.

3. Is it possible to study B.L after my diploma?

 - No, you can't apply for B.L after diploma. 

4. Is the university UGC and BCI approved?

 - Yes, the university is approved by BCI and recognized by UGC. It is also a member of AIU (Association of Indian Universities), Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi, and Association of Common Wealth Universities, U.K.

 5. Does the university provide distance education programs?

 - No, as per UGC guidelines, the university doesn't provide distance education programs.

Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University Eligibility Criteria and Admission Procedure

Eligibility Criteria :

 TNDALU Admission Procedure:

• Applications can be obtained in person or by post or online by paying prescribed fees through any Indian Bank.
• Candidates need to send a requisition letter form by post, mentioning the course they want to apply, along with the requisite fee (Challan), to the Registrar.
• The Challan is to be downloaded from the university's website.
• Application fee paid through Cash/Demand Draft/Money Order/Cheque etc., will not be accepted.
• The candidate needs to register to the official website with username and password.
• For online applicants, choose the degree, make the payment online and then fill the application carefully.
• Then submit the application.

TNDALU LLB & Integrated Program Admission:

• There is no age limit for admission in undergraduate graduates for both SC/ST and general candidates.
• Candidates are selected based on their marks in the qualifying examination for all the UG courses.
• There is a total of 548 seats in five years of integrated courses in LL.B. (Hons.). with BA, BBA, BCA, and B.Com.
• There is no age limit for ST/SC but the general candidates can maximum be of 21 years.
• Candidates belonging to SC (O)/SC (A)/ST can get fees concession.
• 15% of seats are reserved for the NRI candidates.
• 4% of seats in B.A.LL.B.[Hons.] and B.B.A.LL.B. [Hons.] are allotted to the Higher Secondary Courses (+2) vocational stream candidates.
• The candidate who completed 10+2 or graduation/post-graduation through Open University directly without having any basic qualification can't apply.
