What is the Normalisation Process for CAT Score for IIM?
CAT score card provides normalised scores. These scores are proportioned relative to all candidates and their individual and sectional scores. Different question papers carry variations of questions and patterns. Hence, it is crucial to assign marks to CAT students based on the relative scores of all candidates.
The normalisation process for the CAT 2024 score card depends on the exam's difficulty level, the candidates' average score, and the exam slot differences in questions and exam pattern.
- Step 1: First, candidates' raw scores are calculated based on the section-wise performance. The raw CAT score for IIM is the number of questions answered correctly by applicants.
- Step 2: Considering the difficulty of each exam slot, the raw scores are adjusted accordingly to ensure a fair assessment.
- Step 3: Authorities compare each student's performance with those in the other slots. This way, percentiles represent the amount of people who scored less than the candidates.
- Students can find the normalised CAT score using the below-mentioned formula:
Normalized score = (Percentile rank/100) x Maximum marks for the section
For example, with a candidate scoring in the 95th percentile of a particular exam section, and the total marks for that being 100, the formula is such:
Normalized score = (95/100) x 100 = 95
