Steps to Follow for Writing a Formal Letter
These are the steps to follow for writing a formal letter as per the specimen of CISCE ICSE Class 10th letter writing Sample paper:
- Mention the address of the sender in the right corner.
- The address should not have the name of the sender.
- Mention the date in the same format as was in the case of the informal letter.
- There must be a gap between the address and the date.
- Mention the address of the receiver. There must be a gap between the date and the receiver's address.
- Enter the salutation along with the reference of Sir/Mam, based on gender.
- Leave a two-fingers distance between the salutation and the introduction of the formal letter.
- Start the letter with a brief on the subject matter. The introduction can be summed up in two or three lines based on the subject matter. It must be noted that the subject matter must be summarised in a nutshell in the introduction.
- The body or the actual letter can be three to four paragraphs. Address the issues in these paragraphs in a detailed manner. You can also highlight certain data points or the severity of the crisis and give examples to enrich the letter's content.
- End the letter with a conclusion.
- The conclusion must end with the proposed demand you made through the letter or a request depending upon the condition of the letter.
- After the conclusion, leave a gap and mention a moderate subscription such as Yours Faithfully. Mention your full official name below the subscription.

Steps to Follow for Writing an Informal Letter
The first two samples are addressed informally, and the following steps will help the students identify the crucial aspects of writing an informal letter. The students can adhere to the specimen of CISCE ICSE Class 10th letter writing sample paper given below to better picture the letter.
- Mention the sender's address in the left corner or the right corner.
- The address must not contain the name of the sender.
- Mention the date in this format- dd/mm/yy (18th March 2024)
- There must be two fingers' distance between the address and the date specified in the specimen.
- Mention the salutation with the informal or house name of the receiver.
- Keep a two-fingers distance between the date and the salutation.
- Start the letter with a brief acknowledgment of your safety and ask the receiver before heading with the letter's content.
- The introduction can be five lines, but it should not be the entire letter.
- Prepare at least two paragraphs of three lines to make the letter sound interesting.
- Slight exaggeration would be good for an informal letter.
- End the letter with an expectation(in case of demand) or a positive note.
- Subscriptions must be used to end the informal letter. Below the subscription, your first name should be mentioned.
